He did his in-and-out maneuver again, and this time, when he rammed back into her, he let go, his hot load filling her, his body also convulsing, his eyes half-closed.

She exhaled, taking note of what just happened. Her legs cramped because of the awkward position, her sex still swollen and tender, her body still reeling from the intense sex session.

A buzzing sound caught her attention. That wasn’t from her body, right? She blinked, and recognized the vibrating noise from a cell phone. A cell phone that was on the desk. His phone. “The car service,” she said, then awkwardly disengaged from him, pushing him out of the way. God, that was her cue, wasn’t it? Time to go before things got weird.

“What?” he asked, stuffing his cock in his pants.

She smoothed her hands over her blouse and skirt, grateful this was NYC and not Hope Springs. The driver wouldn’t care about her state of dishevel. “It’s the car service. I have to go.” She scooped her purse from the chair, and returned to the door.

“Poppy, we need to talk.”

“Not tonight,” she said, forcing a neutral smile. “This was… nice. But I have to go.”

“Nice?” He frowned. “Poppy, fuck the car service. We need to talk.”

No. The only one getting fucked if she stayed would be her—and not in a good way. Why make it awkward? She didn’t need for him to apologize or hell, for her too. They had sex. Fine. Now she had to move on and not make it weird. Talking about it would do no one good. One and done. They scratched the itch. That was it.

“No. It’s fine,” she said, opening the door behind her. “It’s all good, you don’t have to worry. I have to go home and catch some sleep. I’ll be here tomorrow to get the kids ready for the flight,” she said, then scurried out of sight.

“How’s the movie, Miss Poppy?” Archie asked, pointing at the sleek TV in front of her.

“It’s… nice,” she answered, ruffling his head.

Nice. The same fucking word again.

Ah, how he hated that word. Ethan winced. Ever since the previous night, he could think of nothing else but how ridiculously vague nice was. He paused. Liar, he chastised himself. He’d also spent long hours reliving every moment with her in his head.

He hadn’t meant to pounce on her. But after they kissed, he couldn’t stop. She was so wet and making sexy sounds that got his blood boiling just to think of them.

Damn.

She was so effortlessly sexy.

A problem, for sure.

He had several weeks with her, and she was the best nanny the kids had. Not because of her questionable organizational skills, but because the kids had taken a liking to her. Archie was smitten by her, and Willow… she didn’t hate her. That had to be progress.

He’d hate to shorten the time with her because of a bad move. He needed to talk to her about it, but during the entire day that had been impossible.

She’d arrived in the nick of time, helped get the kids out the door and head to the airfield.

Then, Archie and Willow had talked to her for the first few hours of the flight, and he intended on working on his laptop, but his mind kept wandering off. And now, anxiety crept under his skin. He needed to talk to her about what happened, to make sure they were on the same page.

What was his page? He cleared his throat. His page might as well be a crumpled piece of paper he tossed in the fire the minute they kissed.

Sex with her had awakened a part of him he’d dampened because of his hectic last year. The insatiable lover. If she wasn’t the kids’ nanny, it’d be a different story. What if she wasn’t on birth control? That thought also occurred to him.

When had he been so careless? He was a grown ass man, and he could fuck both of their lives. Get her saddled into something she didn’t want.

He watched her talk to Archie, until his boy fell asleep.

Willow, sitting next to him, yawned, and when she closed her eyes, he knew he didn’t have much time.

He waited until Poppy went to the restroom in the back. When she returned, before she sat in her seat, he ushered her to the two last seats, the ones furthest away from the kids. Besides the pilot, a flight attendant was on board, but she was all the way at front, playing with her phone.

“I need to talk to you,” he said.

She plopped next to him, shoulders sluggish. “Okay. What’s up?”
