She shook her head, perched hands at her waist. “See, there you are, delusional. I don’t feel anything—”

He lifted his hand to her face, hooking a finger under her chin to lift it. The moment his eyes met hers, an electrifying energy bounced between them and the anger he experienced moments earlier shifted into a different emotion. More welcoming, but just as disturbing.

He outlined her lush, bow-shaped lips with his fingers. She trembled under his touch, the evidence he needed about how much she wanted him.

Without ripping his gaze from hers, he dipped his head lower. He kissed her cheek, and a sexy low moan filled the air. Her response only aroused him further, and he dragged his lips down her smooth skin until he found her mouth.

The moment he swiped his tongue across her lips, lust struck him like a blow. She parted her mouth, granting him access, and he pulled her to him as if he’d lose her otherwise. She encircled her hands around his head, and he intensified the kiss, exploring her mouth, punishing her with his tongue.

She matched his urgency, his passion, softening in his arms. Groaning, he slid his hands down her back, until he cupped her ass, bringing them to a sinful mold.

He wrenched his mouth from hers, tracing a path of kisses along her neck until he felt her pulse throbbing at the base of her throat. She let out another sexy moan, fingers running through his hair and sensitizing his scalp.

Then, he worked his way up again, nipping at her neck, noticing her skin’s flushing, until he planted a small kiss on the corner of her mouth. She bobbed her heard forward, disoriented, pupils dilated. “Who’s delusional now?” he whispered in her ear.

She withdrew from him, widening her eyes, and within a fraction of a second, very much alert.

She ran her fingers through her hair, fixing herself, her breath still labored—and if he was honest with himself, his too. “Fair enough. I see your point.”

“So you agree with me, good.” Finally, they were making progress. Pretending to go along with his father’s idea would buy him time to find a sure way to undermine his airliner deal. Hit his father where it hurt him—his pocket, career and reputation all at once.

“I didn’t say yes.”

“What do you need to say yes?”

She rubbed her temples. “I-I need the room.”

He sighed. “No one has ever asked me for the room before.” What kind of game was she playing? He leaned closer, but she lifted up a hand in denial and stepped back a couple of steps.

“Listen, Mr. Beauford—”

“Luc.”

“Luc,” she repeated. “I need to think. You can’t expect me to make a life changing decision like that on a whim.”

“Remember if you say no, most likely we’ll have to let you go as an assistant, or transfer you to a different state. We can’t keep you while the media follows us thinking we’re still something more than just boss and employee,” he said.

Her eyes widened, a glint of panic in them. “That’s blackmail.”

“No, ma chère. That’s simply stating the obvious.”

If he let her leave the room without a definite answer, he’d come across as weak, and therefore, less valuable for his father—which may delay his establishing rapport with the man he wanted to destroy. “I’ll give you five minutes,” he said under his breath, before he headed for the door.
