I think they’re like any other dysfunctional family, just with more commas in their bank accounts. Even now, as I look up at my husband, I can see the wheels turning in his head. He has a lot weighing on his shoulders.

Something is going on with Cane. Gregor is important to Clay. His situation is one Clay wishes he could do more about. Then there’s me. Things still haven’t been resolved. Just before the wedding, I was sent a summons to appear in court.

Someone is still out there trying their darndest to play with my life. Somehow, all of this has fallen on my man’s shoulders. He tries to hide it, but I see the moments when he’s plotting, planning, and scheming ways out of all of this. Clay takes care of everyone because everything always needs to be under control, his control.

“Now, who’s overthinking?” I say, running my hands up his chest.

He turns to look down at me. His pensive look fades, warmth returning to his eyes. That simple warmth quickly turns into heat. A smile kicks up the right side of his mouth.

“I want you to stop your birth control,” he says, shocking me.

I stare at him dumbly. I don’t know what to say. I knit my brows as I try to remember when my next appointment is for my shot.

When Clayton replaced my laptop, my digital day planner didn’t carry over many of my appointments, past or future. I’ve been so focused on my blog and book, I never got around to recovering the dates and updating them.

I should’ve asked my assistant, Nikki, to do it for me, but I’m still getting used to having her. I try not to overwork her. I frown when I seriously can’t come up with an answer.

My mouth falls open when it dawns on me it’s been well over three months. I haven’t been in since around the time I moved in with Clayton. I face-palm myself, remembering the call I received a few days before we returned from Georgia.

I was supposed to call in to make an appointment. I forgot because my book came back from the editor and I was too excited and focused on getting through the feedback. I was supposed to schedule an appointment but never did. I haven’t been on birth control in months.

“Would you like to explain what just happened?” He chuckles but has a hint of concern in his voice. “That’s not the reaction I was expecting when asking my wife to have my baby.”

I wince, looking up at him through my lashes. “Clay, um, we may have been taking a risk all along. I haven’t had my shot in months. I never scheduled an appointment and I’ve been so bu—”

My words are cut off as he cups my face and crushes my lips with his. He groans into my mouth, causing my toes to curl into the sand. I cling to his forearms.

A yelp floats into his mouth from mine when he dips to scoop me up into his arms. I put my arms around his neck. Clayton starts for the back entrance of the beach house we’ve been calling our home for the last two weeks. It’s been an oasis. All the problems back home seem light-years away while we hide in our bubble here.

We never make it into the house. Clayton deposits me onto one of the loungers by the pool. I’m panting as I watch him move down my body, kissing my heated skin on his way down.

He hooks his long fingers inside my bikini bottom, tugging it slowly down my leg. This man just loves to torture me. I need him, but he’s taking his sweet time.

He reaches to splay his hand over my belly, drawing my attention to his wedding band. I suck in a breath and hold back tears.

I think it just hits me that I’m really married to this man. I’m Clayton Hennessy’s wife. I want to pinch myself. However, his attention to my clit has the same effect.

My eyes roll back in my head. I twist my fingers in his hair. This will never cease to amaze me. His mouth is pure joy.

Every woman in the world deserves to know this type of pleasure at least once in their life. Just not from my husband. Clayton is mine and I don’t plan on giving him up.

I rock my hips against his face with that thought in mind. Crying out when he hooks his fingers inside me to tap my spot, I go over in a blaze of glory.

I know he’s not going to stop there and welcome the blessing he has planned for my body. Only the phone in the house rings. Clayton lifts his head, his brows drawn. I have a sinking feeling in my belly.
