Page 47 of A Million to Blow

I sit and think for a moment. I have a million things I’d like to say. All of them nasty. I wonder if I let one of them slip, will he still be too tired?

I’ll lie my ass down if you lie on top of me. Why don’t you quiet my thoughts down by making me scream your name? I can go to sleep after you finally put it on me.

Yup, I have a bunch of things I want to say, but I just bite my lip and stare into his tired gray eyes as he looks back at me. His eyes drop to my rock-hard nipples. For a brief moment, I think I detect lust in his eyes.

He licks his lips before they part to speak, but his phone rings, cutting off his words. He growls, rolling to reach for the phone on the nightstand. His brows crease when he looks at the screen.

Sitting up, he leans in to kiss my forehead before standing and leaving the room. I fold my arms over my chest and stare after him. Clayton never leaves the room to take a call.

I don’t think of myself as insecure, but this right here has me second-guessing myself in all types of ways. I don’t like it and I damn sure won’t allow it. Enough is enough.

You know something, I’m glad we haven’t slept together. That’s going to help me make this exit swift.

I don’t need to be anymore tied to this man than I already am. All of this is for the birds. If he’s seeing someone, he’s welcome to it. I’m officially over it.

Chapter 20

Ten Steps Back

Sidney

I’m sitting on the chaise lounge in Clayton’s office, working on a few blog posts for today. Which is driving my horny ass crazy.

I’m typing about this guy pounding this chick out and all I want is for Clayton to come over here and fuck me against this chaise. In my defense. It’s been so long since I’ve been with a man. Clayton is all man and looking at that body and smelling his manly cologne and aftershave is doing nothing to help me.

“You were gone when I woke,” Clayton rumbles as he appears.

He grasps the back of my neck and tips my head back for a kiss. I turn my face and his lips land on my cheek. I ignore him and keep typing.

“I wanted to get in a workout and get these thoughts down,” I reply.

“I was surprised, is all,” he says, sounding a bit frustrated.

I stop typing to look up at him and frown. His hair is damp from his shower and his dress shirt is sitting open as it’s tucked into his slacks. Gah, why me?

He goes to throw his leg over the chaise to sit behind me, but I get up, take my laptop, and move across the room to sit on the floor.

I go back to work as if nothing happened. His eyes are on me, but I refuse to look up at him. I’m too charged up to allow him to be so close to me.

His phone rings, causing him to stand and leave the room as he starts to bark orders into it. I watch his ass as he goes.

“Thank God,” I murmur.

Clayton

“Sidney.” I blow out a long, exasperated breath. “I’m not a mind reader, but it’s clear we’re having a problem. Would you like to tell me what’s going on?”

“Nothing,” she replies, not looking up from her plate.

I’ve been in a shit mood since last night. It’s been a long week full of shit to keep me on my toes. I was already tired when that call came in.

It should have been a simple task, pick up the jewels from Georgia and bring them here to New York. That’s all the guys had to do. I wanted to have them cleaned and maintained before handing them over to the woman that has made her way into my heart without so much as knowing it.

How a simple task turned into two of my men being arrested and detained for questioning, I have no idea. Another well-aligned tip that has only served to piss me off. Sidney thinks things have been quiet.

They haven’t, I’ve just been ahead of her finding out about any of the bullshit that’s happening. One of my companies is in the process of being audited and a few of my permits have been paused for a couple of new projects. It’s nothing to really hurt my business, but it’s enough to be a nuisance.

Someone’s trying to get under my skin. I could easily make this all go away if I go to my father for his help, but I’ll be a dead man before that happens. I’ve done everything I can to keep a lid on this since my father decided to stick his nose into Sid’s situation.
