He doubted she could truly look bad, even if she tried.

“Okay, guys," Liv said. “Charlie - thank you for doing this. But seriously, don’t kill each other.”

“It’s going to be fine," Charlie said.

Neither Liv nor Lewis looked convinced. In fact, Liv looked worried, which wasn’t normal for her.

“I’ll call you if I need anything," Violet said.

“Your phone isn’t working,” Liv reminded her friend.

“I’ll call if we fight," Charlie said. “Okay?”

Liv nodded. “Okay, but before you go, I need you to know I wouldn’t have suggested this if it wasn’t the only option.”

“Yeah, I get it,” Violet said.

“Okay… be safe, guys.”

Judging by the way Liv and Lewis looked at them when they left the room, neither of them expected this to go well.

And Charlie didn’t either.

Chapter Four

Violet

Charlie, of course, lived in a beautiful, historical neighborhood. The very gorgeous, historical neighborhood right near her school - the one she wished she could live in every time she passed it.

God damn it.

It had old, huge trees. It had well lit, and paved roads, with beautiful grass lined sidewalks.

His house was on a corner, nestled behind two giant oak trees, which still had a few red leaves hanging on from the end of fall. He had a small driveway that led to a large, gated backyard. The house was an American four square, with old, white siding and original windows. It was truly a house preserved in history.

Fucking hell. How did he get a perfect house like this?

She parked behind Charlie’s Mercedes and tried not to lose her mind.

All she had to her name right now was her laptop and some old laundry she had meant to take to a laundromat. That gave her a few changes of clothes for work while she waited on her renter’s insurance to pay for the damages to her items. Her mind was a mess of things she needed to do. She would need to buy new clothes, new furniture, new everything.

And she was going to have to do it all in Charlie’s house.

For the next few days, Violet was going to be horribly uncomfortable. She was staying with her enemy, had barely any clothes, and no phone. She would be able to at least get her phone replaced the next day, but everything else was going to take time.

To top it all off, Violet’s landlord was going to drag his feet. He never cared to answer repair requests, and Violet found herself doing a lot of the dirty work when she had the time. Her landlord hadn’t even shown up when his own building fell in.

It was going to take a long time to fix this, but she only had to survive in Charlie’s house for two weeks. That was it. Then she could be with people who didn’t hate her.

She could do it. She literally had no other choice.

Charlie got out of his car, looking tense. “Here we are.”

“It’s nice,” Violet muttered.

“You don’t have to compliment it because I’m letting you stay.” His voice was closed off and rough. Violet blushed and decided to keep her mouth shut. “This house was my great grandmother’s. Every generation of my family was raised here.”

Violet could have easily had a killer comeback. Oh, were all of them as evil as you?
