“He started it.” Charlie tried to keep the malice out of his voice. “You ended it.”

“Ugh, I hate doing that.”

“He deserved it. If you hadn’t, I was about to punch him.”

“I could tell… What was that about?”

“He’s a bully, and I used to deal with Lewis’s bullies all the time. It’s not the most elegant solution, but I couldn’t take him insulting you like that.”

“Thanks, but I can handle myself.”

“I know. I saw it. Honestly, it was kind of hot.”

“Yeah right,” she said, shaking her head. “It was embarrassing.”

“Not from where I was standing.”

“You weren’t on the receiving end of it. Of course you’d think differently.”

“I always thought you looked good when you were giving someone a piece of your mind. When we would fight, you kept taking steps towards me, and even though you’re tiny-“

“I’m not that tiny,” Violet interjected.

“It was intimidating.”

“And you thought intimidation was hot?”

“I mean, it’s you… so yeah.”

Violet blushed a beautiful color and laughed. Charlie stared at her, more than a little proud he had managed to cheer her up.

Violet pushed herself off the counter and walked towards him. She stopped right in front of him, her body only centimeters from him.

They didn’t usually stand this close, and it was even more dangerous now.

“Remember what we said about hypotheticals?”

“What?” Charlie asked, confused.

“Fuck it," she said, and she grabbed his dress shirt, pulling her to him for a searing kiss. For a moment, he reveled in it, trying to memorize the feeling of her lips on his.

“Wait," he said pulling away. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but we agreed this was a bad idea.”

“Yeah, we did. I’m willing to look past it if you are.”

Charlie knew he should tell her he couldn’t do this. He knew he shouldn’t give into what he was feeling and continue kissing her, but he was a weak man. So, he only nodded, and let Violet pull him back down to press his lips on hers.

Violet

Violet thought she could only hate Charlie Davis.

And she was wrong. In fact, there were a lot of things she could feel for him. Hate. Love.

Lust.

She didn’t want to wait for the feelings to fade. She didn’t want to hide from someone who liked her because she was scared.
