It was also difficult to explain to a six-year-old about great-grandparents, so she just took up calling my grandparents something akin to it.
“I don’t know.” I shrugged, “Ask your mom.”
Abby turned her pleading eyes to Jess. “Please, Mommy?”
“We can go,ifyou clean your room, get dressed, and brush your teeth. Then later today we can go get some ice-cream. Deal?”
“Deal!” Abby excitedly jumped off the bed, calling for Jess to help her.
Jess stood up, fixing her shirt that had ridden up and given me a glimpse at her silky skin. She threw a pillow at me, and said, “You’re such a sucker.”
Although, we both knew that she was a sucker for Abby, too.
I laughed as she walked out the door. When she was gone, I opened my draw and pulled out the ring box.
Grinning down at it, I figured going back to the ice-cream parlor was the perfect way to finally give her the ring.
