I went inside.

Leo put on her shirt, not caring if anybody saw her boobies bouncing when she let them go. Everyone saw all of her at Royal Road anyway when she was on stage. She found some shorts to step into before she motioned for me to follow her outside and off the porch. We marched over to the Big House. Having her with me gave me a lot more courage. Taking some bags from the cupboards, Leo helped me gather up my few belongings. I hadn't brought much over to Kingpin’s place, just my clothes, shoes, my makeup, and a few mementos. Most of my stuff was still over at my grandmother’s old house.

I was having second thoughts about staying here. I was thinking about getting an Uber to take me back over to the house that was left to my mom. Surely, she hadn't sold it yet. Because all my shit was still there. No one had told me to come and get anything and Mom texted nearly every day asking about me. I never texted her back. I figured the glass Kingpin broke by the back door still hadn't been repaired. I could get in there if I wanted to.

“Let's hold on, Leo, maybe I should go back to grandma’s house.”

“No, Sky. Kingpin knows that place. If this doesn’t work you can go to mine.”

“He knows that one too.”

“I’ve got a new place. An insurance policy if I have to disappear. Trust me, if this doesn’t work you can go there and then hop a plane back home. The night's young. We are going to get you moved. We’ll get you dolled up and you're going to go over to Royal Road and have a high oh time. Show that has-been President what he's missing? He’ll forget all about this shit.”

I really didn't feel up to it. But I took Leo's advice. If there was one thing in the world that I wanted, it was to go back to just a couple days ago. Back to when Kingpin didn’t know about Ralph. He was so upset about me lying to him. And I hadn't really lied. I hadn't done anything worse than what he did to me.

Leo had the night off. Opry had fixed her schedule to match his. She was telling me all about it as she helped me pick out my clothes. Everything I owned was black on black. And Leo said that was okay.

“Kingpin fell in love with you like this, so you don't need to change. The only thing that he needs to see is that you are still a woman, you're not just his property. He needs to see that if you're not with him, you won’t be stuck in this house, crying your eyes out. He needs to see that your life is going to go on.”

“But I don't think it will. I think I need to go back to California.”

“The only thing I need to know, sis, is do you love this biker?”

“I did. I do. My heart’s broken.”

“Well, maybe you need a day to cry first?”

“I've been crying for a day already.”

This time when I went to Royal Road it wasn't to go sit on Kingpin’s lap while he sat on his throne. He sat on his throne alone watching the show. The dancers were on the stage, half a dozen of them all buck naked and beautiful. Kingpin's eyes followed their every twist and turn. He had his hand tucked in his pants as if he were Al Bundy. But the only difference was Kingpin was dark and delicious. With his legs spread, he had one draped over the arm of the throne. I could see the erection in his leather pants from across the room.

Oh, how I wanted to sit on his lap again. But thankfully, he was alone. And unlike any other time, I've been to Royal Road lately, I didn't wear my mask. Smell of weed and cigarette smoke hit me right away. So much that I went straight to the bathroom and threw up.

Leo was hard on my heels, holding my long hair back.

“Girl, your roots are showing.”

“I've been reading up on being pregnant, so I haven't wanted to dye my hair. You know, my hair is dark blonde like yours.”

“You'll be as blonde as Eve by the time you have that baby.”

“Maybe Kingpin will want me then.”

“I heard Kingpin talked to her about Hallow who bruised her up. Everyone is saying Kingpin has nothing to do with her though. People have changed their tune for some reason.”

Leo and I went back out into the club. But instead of sitting at the bar and chatting with the girls, Paisley and Maren and being invisible to the other bikers, the high rollers, nothing but Kingpin’s Ol’ Lady. Someone not to ever look at. I got out on the dance floor. It was almost as good as being on stage. I danced with everybody, with Leo, with other bikers, with the whores, with Dimple, with strange rich men. I had no idea who they were. I let them sniff my hair. I let them put their hands all over me. And pretty soon the biker I wanted to touch me was in front of me.

But if looks could kill, I’d be dead in the ground.

Chapter 21

Sky

“What the hell do you think you're doing? Are you drinking?” Kingpin shouted over the music.

“No, I’m not drinking.” I rubbed my bare belly. “I’m pregnant, remember. I’m just having a good time. Maybe you should try it since you're a single Pringle now.”

Kingpin grabbed my arms. He wasn't being gentle.
