I stare at her blankly. “I don’t believe you.”

Her smile grows. “I also chose the ugliest pair of earrings I could find in my collection because I wasn’t about to waste something I actually liked. I’m pretty sure I bought that—” she points to the earring, “—at a mall kiosk when I was sixteen.”

I stare down at the dangling earring, unable to believe that I’ve spent the past week pining over this thing, holding it in my hands and rubbing it as if I could conjure her with it.

I reach my hand toward her hips. She clearly anticipates what’s going to come, because she squeals and rolls away from me, but I get a good grip on her arm before she makes it off the bed. I hold her tightly, lifting my hand high in the air.

SLAP!

The sound echoes through the room, and the pink print of my hand forms on her skin.

SLAP!

“Oh God!” Her voice is breathy and hoarse. “Do that again!”

“No.” I grab her by the shoulders and roughly flip her onto her back, shifting my body over hers. “Not if you want it. This is a punishment, and it’s not the only one you’re going to get. I can’t believe I was pining over that earring when it was a gesture of spite. For that, I’m not going to let you sleep at all tonight.

She hums, wiggling her hips against mine.

“And I’m going to fuck you hard this time.”

But I don’t. The next thirty minutes are soft and slow and worshipful, because she’s given me what I’ve always wanted and never thought I’d get. Three months ago, this was only a fantasy, and now she’s really here.

And she’s here for good.

She’s home.
