"Today?" She shakes her head. "Don't know how it is in Scotland, but here we've got licenses and blood tests and whatnot."

"Not in Colorado. Didn't you know that? You've lived in this state for how long?"

"Six years. But I've never been married. Engaged once, but never married. I didn't have a reason to learn about the marriage laws."

"I researched the process last night."

"Of course you did." She hesitates, her lips puckering slightly. "How did you find me here?"

"You mentioned Travellis Games and Colorado Springs. I didn't expect to find you at work, but I hoped your colleagues might point me in the right direction."

"Impatient, huh?"

"Today is Tuesday. I leave tomorrow." I fiddle with my shirt collar. "I needed your answer."

"You've got it."

I check the time on my mobile. "We should hurry if we're going to do this today."

"What's the rush? Don't you want to have a wedding in front of your family?"

"No." That's the last thing I want. This isn't a long-term relationship, and I don't want my family watching while I enter into a legally acceptable farce. I don't know why, but I slip a hand under my jacket only to realize I have no idea what I was reaching for, so I withdraw my hand. "Are you sure you've read the entire contract and understand it fully?"

"Yep." She rises onto her toes and pecks a kiss on my lips. "I'm a smart girl. I know what I'm getting into."

She claims to be sure. Time will tell. Once she sees what I'm really like, she might abandon the fortune I'm offering her and run back to America.

I guide Emery to the limousine parked along the curb.

Aye, I'd hired a limousine. Might as well travel in comfort. I'm not trying to impress Emery.

I swing the door open and wait for her to climb inside.

She gets in, sliding across the seat while I drop onto the cushioned leather beside her.

By this afternoon, I will be married to Emery Granger. What happens after that… Heaven only knows.
