I swear time loved to go slower when you were the one in the middle of the ring.

“When I beat you to the fucking ground, I can’t wait to drag your body back to the Vile Queen,” Felicia hissed. “Wasting my time being a Beta for an old geezer who could only think about his successor! A waste of space who tried to look all tough on the outside when he was always worried about his dear child. A fucking waste of time!”

Another kick was followed with her dropping to the floor and kicking outward to try to get me off balance, but I spun and shuffled to make some distance, forcing her to charge at me. I allowed my muscles to remain relaxed while knowing I was about to let her take me to the ground.

In a blink, she tackled me right down, the two of us skidding along the floor before my arms were up and crossed to face the next brutal punches of Felicia’s wrath.

“Everything I did was never enough!” she screeched as she began to punch me fast and hard. “Willow is better at this. Willow can take a beating like that. Willow will take my throne. Willow will be the heir. Willow. Willow. Willow! Do you know how fucking annoying that is? To never be fucking enough?! Always being placed second because some bitch with a fucking birthright is put ahead of you?!”

I lowered my arm just slightly, which landed a punch right in my face. Another one soon followed, which actually was a pain in the ass to endure but I quickly lifted my arms up once more as I managed to block her remaining round of punches.

“Then the Vile Queen just has to be obsessed with you. Her new prodigy! The one who will rise and lead her to seek her vengeance. She always compared my flaws to your perfections. How you could endure all her fucked-up experiments and torture techniques and I couldn’t do shit! How fucking insulting to always be deemed useless because you’re not the girl that everyone adores. I’ll never be the human latent bitch that always has everyone talking. You have fan clubs. People in the Underground talk about your day and night. People scurry to get a chance at fucking killing you, and men die to be worthy of just being seen by you, and then you have the nerve to want to die? Did you try to kill yourself for fucking pity?!”

I wasn’t expecting the last part, which was why I managed to use my legs to lift my hips in a swift movement that sent her over my head to the floor. I was up in a low squat before spinning around in time to take in her tackle, which only sent us back on the floor.

“A fucking coward who wanted the world to mourn her when she has fucking everything! Did you want to make your Papa Dearest worry sick for you because you want his fucking affection?!” she snapped and managed to punch me right in the nose — triggering blood to splatter around my face and the floor. “The world is fucking obsessed with you, but you wanted out when it was too fucking hard. You’re a disgrace! A fucking weak ass bitch who now wants to live now that you have immunity. Roberto died when it was supposed to be YOU! Yet, you think you can be Alpha? You’re nothing but a hypocrite, and I’ll prove to everyone that you deserve to be a fucking slave, not bowed down to!”

I let out a grunt as I felt Bria’s anger boil through me. No. It wasn’t just her. It felt like a combination of every part of me. The various sides that were hidden for my own fucking sanity. Felicia’s words simply reminded me of the many times I wished to be normal.

A normal wolf shifter who could prove her worth.

A normal child who could make her father proud.

A normal girlfriend who didn’t always have to get into shit and put her boyfriend in danger.

A normal being who didn’t have the world’s eyes on her with every move.

Felicia pointed out so many things that she despised about my existence, but did she know even a glimpse of my suffering? Could she even picture what it was like to be me?

“One minute!” Alpha Memphis announced.

I was ready to turn the tables, but I noticed the crazed glint in Felicia’s eyes that forced me to freeze in place as my eyes noticed what was in her grasp.

“Wait! What’s that?!” someone called out, but my mind was a few steps ahead of me as magic triggered the unthinkable — and time froze a second later.

“Shit,” I cursed and squinted my eyes to take in the miniature blade that was clearly cloaked in some odd liquid. The smell reminded me of poison, and yet my conscious was telling me that was something far more lethal that wasn’t something you bought legally.

“How did she manage to get Vile Seperent Venom?”

I blinked and slowly looked over to Amos, who was moving and breathing just fine.

“You’re immune to time-stopping?” I questioned and groaned. “Fuck. This bitch punches hard.”

“Should I even ask why you’re taking her blows as if you couldn’t take her out in three solid hits?” he countered, which actually made me smile.

“Your confidence in me when you’ve never witnessed me fight in the ring is remarkably sweet,” I praised.

“One would have to be blind to not see that you’re obviously going easy on her,” he huffed while his eyes were on the blade.

“What are my options?” I could already feel the strain of stopping time so I knew I didn’t have long.

“Well, you could get stabbed by it,” he suggested, and I gave him a “what the hell” expression in return. “Or you could try to avoid it, but I have a strong feeling she intends to either stab it into you or throw it at one of us if she can’t have her way.”

I paused to answer because I hadn’t thought that in the slightest.

“Fuck, really?”

“Her eyes were darting to Malachite a lot,” he acknowledged. “Though, I can’t figure out why Malachite would be a target in this heated battle.”
