COLLARED PUPPET AND DESTINED TO REIGN

~WILLOW~

“He’s taking too long.”

The worry in Loki’s voice managed to tug me out of a lulled state in the realms of unconsciousness. My exhaustion was still dragging me down in every way—physical, mental, and emotional—but until Saint returned, I couldn’t completely fall asleep.

I tried in hopes I’d somehow rejuvenate faster and be of assistance, but there was something stopping me from falling into the clutches of slumber.

A heavy pit of anxiety that told me my Dark Lord may need me.

“Saint seems to be one who keeps his word.” Milo’s voice was unexpected because I didn’t know when he’d actually arrived.

I must have been semi-conscious during his arrival, but now that he was here, I was beginning to acknowledge the hint of warmth flooding my senses.

“That’s the impression he gives,” Loki noted. “He wouldn’t make promises he can’t keep.”

“Which is why you’re worried.”

“Yes,” Loki admitted, but there was a hint of hesitation in his voice that couldn’t be ignored.

Milo caught onto it as well.

“There’s more to your worry,” Milo acknowledged.

Loki didn’t speak for a moment, but eventually he muttered, “The person who took Willow in the first place back at the hotel. His name is Arthur Sephtis.”

I didn’t need to open my eyes to feel the sudden spike of pressure in the atmosphere around us—and it had nothing to do with the fact that a part of NYC was still burning to the ground.

“I’m assuming you know who that is.” Loki’s voice was barely audible.

“Everyone in that torturous prison knew exactly who Arthur was. It’s no different to the many who know who you are. I was privileged to be freed by you, but your mercy was but a saving grace to me when you were known as the Vile Queen’s right hand who’d do anything to please her.”

“By force,” Loki grumbled in disdain. I knew the conversation would end there and go back to the priority at hand.

“Sephtis meanseternal deathin Persian, does it not?” Milo offered.

“It does,” Loki replied as his voice dipped even further. “It’s believed Arthur is Lucifer’s son.”

Huh?

“Lucifer as in the ruler of hell? The rejected angel who was banished to these lands for trying to forsake the man who created and appointed him as his right-hand man in the holy scriptures, Lucifer?”

“Yes,” Loki replied. “His first son. I’m sure no one believes in his existence because it was foretold that Lucifer has children across the universal planes, but Arthur is his successor. I know this because it’s one of the few aspects that landed him a spot as the Vile Queen’s second-in-command.”

“Meaning you two were forced to work together,” Milo concluded.

“Forced to work together and despise one another like a fucking plague,” Loki snarled. “His purpose is to grind my fucking gears.”

“Which is why he enjoyed taking Willow while you and Saint were drugged,” Milo concluded with a sigh. “He’s holding up Saint.”

“You’re stating it like it's a fact.”

“Because it is,” Milo calmly replied, and I wondered if he got a flash of the current or future events. “I got a quick sight of it when you mentioned him grinding your gears. He’s confronting Saint…well…”

“Well?”

“Is Arthur gay?” The question was rather random, even in my state of mind, which was why I questioned if I’d fallen into a dream state or if I was still here in reality.
