“Can I still speak?” I mouthed the words back to him, and he quickly nodded.

“You can speak. It looks like you’re stuck.”

“Stuck?” I wasn’t following what he meant.

“Someone is trying to pull your mind into what’s called a mind hex. Think of it like a mental prison of some sort. Only fae can do it and only a few people can get you out of it.”

“Can Milo help?”

“He’s trying to locate the person. It’s coming from the other building,” Saint explained quickly. He looked far too concerned for my well-being, which left me wondering how bad this “hex” could be.

"What happens if you’re trapped in one?”

"You basically go into a coma,” Saint admitted.

In a coma… Wait. Is that what happened to Papa Dearest? Did a fae put this hex on him?

“We’re getting help, Willow. Just keep focusing on me.”

“Where’d Viktor go?” I decided to ask while the looming uncertainty of what was happening around me fought to grab my attention.

“He’s still in the room with you, Willow,” Saint reassured me. “He’s literally standing behind you trying to get you out of the trance.”

“So you’re who that villainous princess is after.”

I couldn’t help but look up, my reflection only revealing a man in white with vivid orange hair. His complexion was like sand, while the texture was clearly inhuman.

I couldn’t decipher if it was the slight outlines of what could have been scales or the bumpy consistency. What was a little frightening was how white his eyes were, as if there were no other color to those irises that blended so perfectly with the white of his pupil.

“Willow! Baby, look back at me! Don’t fall…it! W…focus…me—” Saint’s words were cut off as I stared at this being who carried a power of dominance and elegance that immediately reminded me of Milo when he was in his royal clothes.

“Who are you?” I dared to ask as I spun around. My surroundings were all gone as I stood in a box room that was cloaked with grey walls.

“Who I am does not matter,”he declared and gave me a sinister smile as he tilted his head to one side.“I’ll admit, you’re powerful for a woman. No wonder why that princess has become infatuated with your uprising.”

“Princess? Which princess are you talking about?” I didn’t understand what he was speaking about.

“A shame my sons have been unable to end your existence. And to add that disgrace of a queen to the mix. An army of imprisoned wolves and you can’t take out one little girl.”

He lifted his hand just slightly, as if he were going to reach out to touch my cheek, but I noticed the sudden struggle to breathe—as if something had tightened around my neck and began to squeeze little by little.

“What…What are you doing?” I questioned hastily before I coughed and reached for my neck in hopes of stopping whatever was tightening around me, but nothing was physically strangling me.

Yet the hold got tighter and tighter, like an anaconda wrapping around its prey.

"I truly have nothing against the Phoenix family,”he noted as he eyed my struggle like I was some sort of experiment.“However, I cannot allow you to empower our kingdom’s enemy.”

Kingdom’s enemy? What in the bloody hell is he talking about?

“I’m…not empowering anyone! Let go!” I tried to move, but my body began to levitate which only accelerated the choke hold around my neck.

I grunted and kicked my feet furiously, as if that would break the spell of panic rushing through me, but nothing was helping.

Dimitris?! I need help! I can’t… breathe!

I couldn’t feel my connection with anyone. Not Dimitris, nor the rest of my bonded packmates.

Neo? Onyx? Saint, Jayce, Milo?! Loki? Arthur?! Anyone!
