It hit its mark marvellously, leaving my enemy hollering in pain as he clenched his face and the hilt of the blade. I bet he was debating on whether to pull it out or deal with the agony for the sake of saving time.

"Seeing as you're closer to death than me," I began with a breathy voice, "tell Garfield you suck at playing dead as well, and that I hope his last meal was marvelous."

The way his expression flooded with rage as he rose up in a rush amused me to my core. If I was truly going to die, I might as well do my best to grind his gears in the process. He quickly pulled out yet another gun, the safety flicked off before he readied himself to pull the trigger.

All I could do was brace myself for the round of bullets that would get rid of me, but at least I'd die with honor instead of as a woman who was filled with bullets and didn't lay a bit of damage on her killer.

I'd survived silver bullets and all types of weapons used against me, but with how weak I felt now, this may be the weapon that kills me. At least the last sight he’d seen was the sin he committed.

The lingering image of my dead body and the crime he’d face consequences for committing.

A shadow suddenly blurred above, catching my attention for a nanosecond before its gigantic body crashed into the very man a few feet away from me. The man's mangled screams were only the beginning of the torture as the chorus of ripped limbs, crushed bones, and pitchy echoes led to a gurgle which left me in more shock than the blade and bullets that injured me.

All it took was ten seconds for the deed to be done and my opponent’s remains to be scattered everywhere. The shadow turned to face me, and the full moon took the opportunity to reveal itself from the passing cloud, and shone a ray of light upon the shadowy beast.

I took in the large wolf with white fur, the soft-looking coat cloaked with blood stains and dirt that must have splattered on him from the intense run through this crisp night.

Pink eyes met my blue ones, the color of pastel pink that reminded me of balls of cotton candy that were served by those rare vendors during the busy evenings of rush hour.

The longer I stared into those mesmerizing orbs, the more familiar - and dangerous - they became. My brain was working hard against the sluggish pace, and it only took five extra seconds to realize those eyes were of my enemy.

The man who rejected me from the only pack I've ever been accepted into.

I was ready to get up and pick a fight, proud to meet him in this form of my true self and bring him a piece of bitchery that he wholeheartedly deserved, but the mere movement suddenly sent me convulsing, my body falling back once more as all I could do was endure the waves of trembling shakes until they came to a pause.

Fuck! This hurts far worse than period cramps!

I fought to sit up once more, and I gasped for air that suddenly seemed to be stuck in my throat. I coughed, and boy did I regret that. It ignited a round of coughs to the point that blood was spurting from my mouth and cloaking my lips.

My single curse was muffled as I suddenly groaned and gave up on the idea of sitting up. Staring up at the sky was suddenly my way of revolting, but I began to realize that time was beginning to tick, and I'd need to get myself to a doctor as soon as possible.

All I could do was think about the past, and I realized that I was about to lose the trial set out for me by Mother Moon. This was what she was waiting for. The final test to prove myself worthy of being a wolf.

How disappointing it would be to return to that garden of roses only to meet her again and reveal that I lost. Would she feel ashamed for giving me this second chance?

No...

She'd open her arms out and take pride in what I achieved.

She'd give words of praise for my ability to try and survive after finding out the truth.

She'd comfort me, just like before.

She'd allow me to enjoy the land of peace...and I don’t think she'd allow me to be alone.

Crushing sounds caught my attention before heavy exhales that weren't my own drifted to me. If only I could allow myself to be curious, I'd think of the perfect way to piss that jackass off before kicking his balls. That would be payback for trying to be a good packmate.

Footsteps made my body grow tense, and lo and behold, there stood the man of my envy and slight temper starter. Even now as those pink rings scanned the damage that was laid upon my poor flesh, all I could do was glare at him in disgust.

The idea of him even trying to help me could make a poor girl gag and leave me begging for any other scenario to deal with, and yet seeing the worry swarm in those pink orbs made me wish to know what he was thinking in this moment.

If only I could get a little bit of strength so I could gain the great satisfaction of punching him in the face one last time seeing as I didn't get the chance earlier when we were duking it out. Just ruin his handsome perfection and get a grasp of that final outcome of dark raccoon eyes.

It would be the perfect image to take with me to the Lands of the In Between.

I'd laugh at the idea if I could, but as I focused on my reality I realized my body struggled to function. I was losing sensation in my fingertips and feet, while my body shuddered as a strange chill began to sweep through me.

Dimitris suddenly looked concerned, and it was such a foreign sight that I thought my mind was surely hallucinating all of it. He was on his knees the next second, his arms shaking me and his words fighting to cut through to me, but my hearing was struggling because of how loud my blood was pumping while a ringing sound assaulted my senses.
