A huge grin appeared on his face. “You were?” He flexed his arm.

She laughed. “Stop.”

“Hey, you started it,” he said, taking another bite and looking quite satisfied with himself.

“I won’t do that again.”

“Oh no, you can do that anytime.” He flashed a smile and nodded to her plate. “So you do like the meat?”

She swallowed another bite. “I love it. And thank you. I haven’t had a home-cooked meal in as long as I can remember, and this is really hitting the spot.”

“You’re welcome.”

She relaxed back into the chair and swiped another piece of meat, smiling at him.

“What?” he asked again.

It was a tad heartening to her that this man might be as nervous as she was for this date. Wait. No. Not a date. “Ugh. I just realized something, that’s all.”

“What’s that?” he asked, taking some salad and pouring blue cheese dressing on it.

She finished the next piece of scrumptious meat. “I …” Her heart raced, and she wasn’t sure she could tell him.

He looked up at her and waited. “What?”

“I think you were right.”

He tilted his head to the side. “You’re going to have to be a bit more specific than that.”

She couldn’t help but smirk at him. “Maybe this is a date.”
