Sam’s face relaxed, and he leaned back in the plush leather seat. “Things are wonderful. And with any luck, her father might forgive us completely in the next five years.”

“You could just give him a few grandkids, and he might warm up to the idea even sooner,” I said, my voice forced casual.

Sam chuckled. “That’s the plan, for sure.” He leaned in as, behind us, Declan handed off Irena to a sleepy-looking Hannah, his wife and former assistant. “What about you, Jamie? Are you liking the new place? Or should we say old place?”

“I think it’s perfect. Great plan to settle down, raise a family.” I shrugged. “You know, the usual.”

“Who is the lucky lady?”

I instantly pictured Margot, that beautiful, sweet smile. The way her body had clenched down on my fingers last night, her tight body falling into my arms as I pleasured her. With a gut-wrenching twist, I realized that I could see her by my side, white gown pooling around her—and, even better, a swollen belly, full of our baby.

I shifted in my chair, sharp need prickling at the back of my heart and in my cock.

I smiled at my partners. “You’ll meet her soon enough.”

Declan leaned into the camera. “We better. We remember some of the less-than-savory women you’ve brought home before. Just remember the rule: We meet her before your mother does. For the woman’s own good. Not yours.”

I chuckled. “Ma will love her. And don’t forget to send more photos, Windham. She’s been asking for a week.”

The conversation moved on, touching on some of the bigger subjects that were coming across our desks, a few rogue drop-ins from Stephanie as she moved through the office to kidnap Sam for a lunch date.

By the time I hung up, I felt sure of my next decision. Margot was beautiful, intelligent, and I was completely and maddeningly infatuated with her. All I needed was a bit more time with her to convince her how amazing we could be together.

I rubbed my hand together as Sam waved me out of the conference room.

It was time for date number two.

Jamie: Good morning, beautiful. Have you decided what you want to do most in the entire world?

Margot: I have not had enough coffee for this conversation.

Jamie: Coffee it is.

Margot: You’re impossible.

Jamie: In that case, you should just tell me. What would you do? If money and time were of no consequence.

Margot: I would go to the library.

Jamie: You’re kidding…

Margot: You asked.

Jamie: I’m sorry. I’m not teasing you. I was just surprised.

Margot: I never get to read anymore. But I love libraries.

Jamie: Consider it done. Be ready to go in 5.

Margot: 5 minutes?

Jamie: Do you need 10?

Margot: I need 50. I haven’t even showered.

Jamie: I have a bath you could borrow.

Margot: 50 minutes, sir. And not a minute less.
