“I mean, I have gotten better, both as an alien and a man. I’ve learned how to control myself, what to do when I have a beautiful woman beneath me or the trust and submission of one in my hand. I’ve learned the joy to be found in the giving of pleasure, and how to ride the wave between pain and pleasure to take my partner, whoever she is, to that special place beyond . . .”

Adriana’s mouth went dry, her tongue feeling wooden in her mouth. She was aroused, no doubt about that, and even she couldn’t lie to herself that she didn’t want this, didn’t want him.

“Is this still about what happened?” she asked instead of begging him to take her right there in the middle of the restaurant like she really wanted to. “I already told you I forgive you.”

“I know,” Odysseus replied with a solemn expression. “Still, I think I locked the door on what was bound to be the most pleasurable thing you could have ever immersed yourself in. I still feel guilty because I know what I did that day stopped you from truly discovering yourself. And that is something I can never forgive myself for.”

Adriana slowly shook her head. “Not everyone can be into the whole whips-and-chain scene. I’ve had lovers after you, okay? And I didn’t need anyone to tie me down for me to enjoy myself.”

From the look he gave her, it was clear he didn’t believe her. Picking his fork back up, he looked at her.

“I just wish I could get a chance to show what you’re missing.”

ChapterEleven

Adriana pondered those words as she lie in her bed in the hotel room. It didn’t help that the object of her thoughts was just an elevator ride away from her. For a moment, she thought about putting her hands between her legs and handling her business herself like she would have done if she was at home. But why settle for a match light when someone promised her a bonfire? The more she told herself not to do it, the more restless she found herself. Until she got up from her bed, put on her robe, and headed out of the room.

A few minutes later, she was knocking on his door. She had barely finished when she heard a click and the door opened. His expression told her he was expecting her, and for a second, Adriana wondered if she had done the right thing.

“Hi,” she said, stepping into the room when he made way for her.

“Hey.” He locked the door behind him and turned to look at her.

They stood staring at each other. He smiled and walked toward her.

“I’m guessing you’re not here to borrow salt.”

Adriana chuckled. “What if I was?”

He stopped right in front of her, so close she had to tip her head back to look at him. “Stop me before I can do this.”

He lowered his head and kissed her.

Adriana froze just for a moment, then she went on tiptoes as she returned the kiss. The small sigh of relief she heard from him had her body tingling all over, and her nipples became even harder than they were. She felt his hand curve around her waist as he pulled her closer, and she lifted her hands to anchor herself on his chest. At least that was the plan. But the solid wall of steel muscles beneath her hands served further to unnerve her.

He suddenly lifted his head, and Adriana murmured in protest.

“You set my blood on fire,” he whispered as he stared at her. “The things I want to do to you . . .”

Adriana looked at him. “Why are you standing there talking?

He smiled down at her, and then in one move, had her in his arms as he moved to the bed. He stopped at the foot end and threw her down on the king-sized mattress before crawling in after her and straddling her. His body trapped her beneath him, and his hands held hers up and pinned them to the headboard. Adriana struggled against him briefly, her body bucking lightly against his. But she had no chance of escaping, and this was quickly made clear to her. He looked down at her, his eyes showing her that she only got up if he wanted her to get up. Adriana wasn’t ready to give up the fight, and she kept on struggling with him. Still, he kept her down. He kissed her again, and all the fight went out of her.

She kissed him back, rubbing her chest against his and feeling the abrasions of his hard pecs through the flimsy material of her nightgown. When he lifted his head this time, Adriana stopped to gather herself, wondering why he could make her feel this way so easily.

“There is pleasure in it, Ari,” he said on a harsh whisper. “So much pleasure, and I want to show you all of it.”

Adriana wanted to say something, anything. But her brain couldn’t think of words or even figure out how to form them. She felt him reach for the hem of her nightgown and lifted herself up to help him. In seconds, they had her naked and lying beneath him.

The light in the room wasn’t bright, so he couldn’t see all of her, but Adriana still found herself self-conscious in front of him. His hand closed over her breast, and she forgot all about that and just let herself feel. The pleasure was so good she lowered her hands and closed them over his.

“No, Ari,” he said as he looked into her eyes. “Hands on the headboard and don’t take them away for anything.”

For a moment, Adriana wanted to ignore him to see what he would do. Then she lifted her hands and grabbed hold of the headboard.

Odysseus’s hands thumbed over her nipples almost lazily. But those lazy motions were causing sensations of excitement right between her legs, and Adriana was finding it hard to stay still.

“Hands on the headboard,” he instructed her. “Don’t let go.”
