I walked down to the garage and saw my driver standing near the SUV.
“Are you ready to leave?” he asked.
“Yeah. Take me to this address,” I said, and then I rattled off the address
The driver nodded, and we both got into the SUV.
When I was settled in the seat, my phone buzzed.
I pulled it out of my pocket.
A response from Kayla.
A thumbs-up emoji.
I looked at it for a moment, my brow furrowed. After a moment, I clicked the screen closed and then returned the phone to my pocket.
An emoji.
That wasn’t like her, but I’d ask her about it later.
For now, I had other matters to attend to.
