“Kayla!”

I called out for her then lay there with my eyes closed, listening.

There was no answer.

But I hadn’t expected there to be.

Not really.

I was so in tune with Kayla that I knew when she was there, could almost feel her.

I didn’t feel her now.

Just felt the same quiet emptiness that was this place whenever she wasn’t here.

I wasn’t surprised, though.

She had never stayed an entire night, and I hadn’t grown the balls to ask her to.

Wasn’t sure that I wanted her to.

No…that wasn’t true.

I did want her to.

Wanted to hold her in my arms for the entire night.

Wanted to wake up to the sight of her face.

Slide my cock into her and fuck her as the sun came up.

And that was exactly why I hadn’t asked her to stay.

But I was starting to reconsider…

I got up, showered, all while turning over the conundrum that was Kayla in my head.

The woman drove me fucking crazy.

That hadn’t changed.

I thought of myself as controlled.

Maybe not as distant as Davit, but I could keep myself in check. It was a key tool for this life and business that I had been born into.

But with Kayla, all of that shit was out the window.

I had stared down stone-cold killers and never broken a sweat.

One look from her, or even worse, her silence, that blank expression that she had mastered, was all it took to set me off.

No one, nothing, had ever affected me like that.

And the fucked up thing was I liked it.
