I looked down at him, at his face relaxing in sleep.

You’re full of it, Kendall, I told myself.

In reality, I probably could get away with sleeping here overnight. Just blame the faulty door on the employee lodge for my badge in, badge out times being messed up. And fixing Deacon’s reputation with people who would probably forget all about him within a couple of weeks wouldn’t be that difficult.

No, the truth was, I wasn’t sure if I could spend the night with Deacon without falling in love with him.

DEACON

My peaceful dreams were shattered by the sound of someone pounding on my front door.

I shot up from my bed, still half asleep, and grabbed for my pants before my brain caught up with me.

What was wrong? An emergency? Had something happened to Kendall?

The pounding only increased. It sounded like the cops or a very angry deliveryman.

“All right! I’m coming!” I yelled, zipping up my fly. If this wasn’t an absolute emergency, I was putting a complaint in with the front office.

I opened the door and my jaw dropped.

Lauren.

She had always been a beautiful woman. Small and sprightly, with dark curls of hair that fell to her waist and curves that could make any man—apparently even men who could love other men—sit up and beg.

Even when I had been at my angriest with her, she could still take my breath away.

Now… I didn’t know if it was the shock, or the fact that I was in a relationship with Kendall, but I felt no knee-jerk reaction. I saw that she was pretty, but I didn’t feel it.

Before I could utter one word, even exclaim in surprise, she pushed past me and marched into the villa as if she owned it.

“Finally,” she said. “It’s eight o’clock in the morning, Deacon. Were you having a late night?”

“Lauren. What the hell? How did you—” But Bob had tried to warn me, hadn’t he? I hadn’t taken him seriously. Anger started to burn through my shock. “What are you doing here?”

She turned to me. “What else was I supposed to do? You wouldn’t meet with me.”

“I was on a vacation!”

“You were running away, like a coward.”

“Lauren, I swear to God. You have ten seconds to tell me what you want before I call security.”

A smirk curved her lips. “I told you, I wanted to talk about our settlement. And I have certain incentives to make you see reason.”

A chill went up and down my spine. There was no way she could have found out about Kendall. Not even his friends at the resort knew about us. “I told you, anything to do with the divorce needs to go through our lawyers first.”

Her smirk grew wider. “I didn’t think you wanted your old-man lawyer to see this.” Then she pulled out her cell phone and turning the screen to me, pressed play.

My stomach sank all the way to the floor. Despite myself, I stepped forward, bracing for the worst.

A loud sexual moan came out through the tiny cell phone speakers. My voice. The deep throaty sound that I tended to make only in the middle of very good sex.

The screen was dark, and it was a little difficult to make out what was going on at first. But then I recognized myself laying on my back, thrusting up into a naked woman riding on top of me, whose face was turned away from the camera.

It was Lauren, of course. Suddenly, I remembered that night, maybe a year and a half ago when she had greeted me after a long day of work in some skimpy lingerie and carefully crafted blonde wig. “I feel like trying something different tonight. You like it?” She’d fed me champagne and berries dipped in chocolate, and we’d had a wonderful night together.
