Page 85 of Losing Control

“You realize I’m on a date, right?”

She was immediately greeted with the chaotically loud atmosphere of Pearl’s.

“Mykie!” Jezebeth yelled over the people in the background. “I’m really sorry to do this, but literally everyone has called out sick and I can’t handle the bar alone. Dexter is helping man the upstairs and I had your boy come help, but he’s barely keeping up.”

“Wait, you brought Caspar with you? He doesn’t have a liquor license,” she said, already maneuvering to pull her jeans onto wet legs.

"Neither did you when you first started," Jezebeth said with a laugh. "So can you come?"

Mykie internally groaned. Of course, she would.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Mykie hung up the phone before Jezebeth could respond.

“Cantil problems?” Corbus asked, already moving to climb out of the pool.

“No, business problems. I apparently need to hire more reliable people.” She pulled her sweater over her head. “Would it be too much to ask for you to drop me off at Pearl’s?”

“No problem,” he said as he started to pull his clothes on, as well.

They were quickly dressed and soon were running out the door, hoping their wet hair didn’t make them catch hyperthermia. They laughed together as Corbus almost slipped on a patch of ice that he didn’t see. Luckily, he saved himself and they got in the car and on the road safely.

"I'm really sorry that we have to end things so soon tonight," Mykie said for about the hundredth time since she hung up with Jezebeth. He had the visor down in front of her as she tried her best to wipe away with restaurant napkins from Corbus’ glove compartment any excess makeup that got messed up and reapply it.

"It's okay. I had a fun time with you. Besides," Corbus turned and smiled at her when they reached a stoplight. "If we were in there any longer, we probably would have looked like prunes, and that's not cute on a first date."

"I don't know. I consider this more like a second date," Mykie said with a shrug.

“When was the first?” he asked as he started driving again when he got the signal.

She closed the visor, happy with how she looked. “Renly’s house after I drove you home drunk.”

He scoffed. “I almost puked! You can’t consider that a first date.”

"You and I lying on the couch together after wasn't bad, though. Anytime spent together can be considered a date."

At that moment, Corbus pulled up down the block from Pearl’s. He didn’t have a choice to park closer, due to the packed streets.

When he parked, he twisted his body to face her. “If that’s true, we can just skip the ‘is it cool to kiss on the first date?’ awkwardness, right?”

Mykie couldn’t help but laugh. “Just two days ago you had me up against a car, kissing me outside my apartment, and you still ask that?”

He held a finger up. “If I remember correctly, you fell and hadmeup against the car.”

Mykie rolled her eyes but giggled. “I wish I could stay in the car with you but need to get in there.”

Corbus’ eyes softened. “I had a good time with you tonight.”

Mykie nodded. “We’ll have to do it again. Make a habit to sneak off and blow off some steam.”

She leaned forward and kissed him softly. She wished it was at her door after the date was done instead of dropping her off at work, but she would take what she could get with him. Her time would always be split between the boys and work, and the sooner she accepted that, the faster they all would get used to it.

She made sure she had everything of hers before she opened the door and stepped out of the car. Before she went, she turned around and leaned down into the car again.

"My favorite flower is lilies, by the way. For next time."

She stood up and closed the door as Corbus' sweet smile gave her a goodbye. She pulled the hood up on her jacket, as it had started to snow, and jogged over to the bouncer, who let her in immediately. As she looked around at the packed tables, she realized Jezebeth was right.
