Page 79 of My Foolish Heart

Reaching up to his shoulders, I take it all in. His expression, almost reverent. The hard ground beneath my back, a welcome reminder that this is no bed.

And Tris is no ordinary man, which makes it all the more appropriate.

When he circles his hips, my hands drop down to cup his ass. It tenses beneath my fingers, soft and firm all at once. I meet every thrust with my own until we are moving so in rhythm I think this could go on all night.

And wish it would.

Except that it can’t. Because his hand inches down between us, and like he’s pressing a button elusive to others, but not Tris, I realize this will not last long at all.

The final straw is when Tris lowers his head, kissing me to the same rhythm. His tongue plunging inside, coaxing the last bit of resistance from me. I let go then, calling his name against his mouth. But Tris can’t hear. Certainly, though, he can feel me as waves of pulsing pleasure are matched in intensity only with his own roar of my name.

He breaks our kiss, falling to the side and taking me with him. We lie like that, on our sides, wrapped in each other’s arms, until every sound, including that of the waterfall he nearly dunked me under, fades away. The only thing I can hear now is the steady beating of his heartbeat.

“Tris,” I say finally, pulling back to look at him.

“Mmmm,” is his answer as he looks deep into my eyes.

“Let’s go skinny-sliding.”

He pulls away and grins before kissing my nose.

“I thought you’d never ask.”

Hours later, after a raucous bout of skinny-sliding and more laughs than I can remember in a long time, we pop the Angel pills that will take away our buzz, get dressed and head back up the wooden stairs to Tristano’s car.

Aside from the best sex of my life, and an experience I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top—having a water park completely to ourselves—there’s something even more exciting about this night.

The shift that’s happened between us. One Tris brings up as soon as we get into the car, before turning the ignition.

“I don’t know how this will work,” he starts, his more serious tone matching his expression. “But I know I want to try.”

I’m not shy about my feelings either.

“So do I.”

“We’ll just have to navigate around the restaurants the best we can.”

“Yeah,” I agree. “It is what it is, right?”

The understatement of the year.

“We’ll figure it out,” he says, leaning into me. His lingering kiss, which leaves me wanting more, is way too short.

“In the meantime,” Tris smiles, “save your days off for me.”

My heart skips a beat at his words.

“Both of them?”

Is he asking what I think he’s asking?

“Both of them.” He grabs a hold of my hand closest to him. “I have no desire to date anyone else, Evie. If you want to—”

“No,” I jump in. “I don’t.”

His smile reaches the corners of his eyes. “Good. Because I’m a one-woman kind of guy.”

Works for me. More than just a little.
