“But I agree with your brother. Publicity is publicity. Take it while you can get it.”

Exactly.

“Speaking of the restaurant, your mother mentioned a letter fromCucina?”

“Yeah, I meant to tell you. Apparently someone nominated DeLuca’s II. I have a call with them on Monday.”

He opens the oven, peers inside, and then looks back at me. “That could be really good for business.”

“It could, but I don’t want to put the cart before the horse.”

“Speaking of good for business, did your brother text you today?”

I wait for him to clarify.

“Enzo,” he says.

“From his honeymoon? No. I think Enzo’s a bit busy, Dad.”

My father reaches in his pocket to take out his phone. Tapping it open, he hands the phone to me with a quick glance at Mom.

“Don’t tell your mother. He wants to surprise her in person. He and Chari are flying back to PA before heading home.”

Curious, I take the phone from him and scan the text.

Contract with GBD approved!

I read through a few more texts where Enzo says not to tell anyone until he comes home.

“Who taught you to use emojis?”

“Your sister.”

“Wow.” I hand the phone back. “That’s awesome.”

Enzo and his partner Hayden have been talking about this contract for months. Global Beer Distribution apparently has more international contacts than any of the independent contractors they’ve worked with to get Angel Inc. into Switzerland, Germany, and Italy.

With them, they’ll have their product in most of Europe.

“Can you imagine? Something your brother invented in every country in the world?”

In fact, I can imagine it. Enzo is as smart as he is relentless. Once they were approved for distribution, I’d assumed the sky would be the limit.

It makes a Cucina Award look like child’s play.

“Mom will be thrilled.”

Hating that I’m comparing Enzo’s accomplishments to mine, I say goodbye to my family, give my sister a silent warning, and leave the tent to head back to my own. I barely make it a block when I see her.

A week ago I’d not seen this woman once.

And now, she seems to be everywhere. Though at this particular moment, Evie is standing in front of McKilligan’s beer tent, apparently looking for someone.

Seems to me the perfect time to start spreading some rumors.
