Looking between Gian and Evie, there’s no doubt my brother isn’t full of shit.

This time.

Something is definitely up. Why does she look guilty?

“Enlighten me,” I say to no one in particular.

“Evie, there you are.”

Before either of them can say a word, Chari swoops in. In a cloud of white fabric and all smiles, she doesn’t notice Gian and me.

“We’ve been looking for you. Class picture.”

I can only assume high school class. Which begs the question, what the hell is going on here?

Evie looks between Chari and me and then hands me her drink. “Hold this for me? I’ll be right back.”

Chari grabs Evie’s hand.

“Keep it safe,” she calls, and just like that, disappears through the entrance.

“Spill it,” I say to my baby brother.

He moves us away from the bar.

“How do you not know Evaline Fuller?”

Evaline. That must be her full name. I like it.

“I don’t know. Who is she? And how do you know her?”

“She was two years ahead of me in school. And she’s also . . .”

“Did you say Fuller?”

She can’t be.

“Uh-huh.”

“As in Scott Fuller’s daughter?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Shit.”

So that’s why Devon was grinning like the devil. He is a dead man walking.

“I saw your little dance too. Impressive.”

Dammit. I put her wine down on the bar. I have no intention of being here when she comes back. The fact that she obviously knew who I was and didn’t tell me . . . what game is the sly Miss Evie playing?

“Where are you going?”

I don’t stop to answer.

“Tris, wait.” Gian catches up to me. “She’s obviously coming back.”
