Page 103 of My Foolish Heart

“Did you request this?”

I will feel a glow just thinking of you.

“I did,” I admit, standing.

And the way you look tonight.

Moving toward her, I extend my hand and Evie takes it, standing with me.

Yes, you’re lovely, with your smile so warm.

And your cheeks so soft.

Taking her in my arms, I move us toward the center of the main deck. White lights surround us from the floorboards and from above. I hear the soft sound of water as we move slowly through the ocean between refrains.

There is nothing for me but to love you.

And the way you look tonight.

“Do you remember what you told me? When I told you I didn’t have any rhythm?” she asks.

Spinning us around, I don’t even have to think back. I’ve thought of that dance so many times.

Lovely, never, never change.

Keep that breathless charm.

“I told you to trust me. To follow my lead.”

She smells so damn Evie-like. It’s a smell I never want to be far away from again.

And that laugh that wrinkles your nose.

It touches my foolish heart.

Foolish heart indeed.

“I told you,” I add, kissing just below her ear, “that dancing is about taking a risk. But there are no prying eyes this time.”

Lovely, don’t you ever change.

Keep that breathless charm.

’Cause I love you.

Just the way you look tonight.

When I lift my head, Evie still swaying in my arms, she looks so deeply into my eyes my chest swells.

“I love you, Tristano.”

My lips cover hers in answer, our tongues tangling and exploring. Part of me wants to stay here, in this spot and in this moment, forever.

The other part is glad when she pulls away and tugs my hand toward our cabin. Thankfully, though it’s big for a boat, the distance to our cabin isn’t that far.

It takes all of three seconds for me to lift up her sundress.

“I don’t even want to go a week without you again.”
