“Kendall?” Adelina asked.

“Our son,” the baroness explained. “Two years younger than Marguerite. We were obliged to contribute manpower to the king’s army. Kendall is serving in the garrison at Carlisle, which, fortunately, is only fifty miles away. My husband sent items of his clothing to your kinsmen’s chamber in the hopes something might fit, though I fear Kendall is slightly smaller in stature than your brother and cousin.”

Roland and Terric chose that moment to enter the dining hall. A wave of heat rolled over Adelina. Both men wore leggings that were a smidgen too small, but it was the way the fabric molded to Roland’s very appealing buttocks and powerful thighs that held her fascinated gaze. She tried hard not to stare at another, very noticeable part of his anatomy.

When he bowed politely and brushed a kiss on her knuckles, there was no mistaking the effect the décolletage had on the already prominent male parts. However, she was at a loss to explain the sudden embarrassing gush of moisture between her legs and the wanton urge to thrust out her swelling breasts. Perhaps if she could tear her gaze away…

The baron broke the spell. “Godric reports the soldier you brought seems to be making progress.”

A frown replaced Roland’s smile. “Is he awake?”

At that moment, Adelina didn’t really care. She wanted to remain transfixed by Roland’s piercing gaze.

“Apparently. Still feverish, but Godric thinks he’ll pull through.”
