I finish chewing and start walking once more, taking another sip of my milky drink. “If they paid you extra, it was probably to keep it all on the down low.”
“Yeah, it was,” Elena says enthusiastically. “They didn’t even face-time me for progress or anything, I never once saw who they were. It’s exciting, right?”
“Well, not really. They might have paid more to the surrogacy company to keep all the information private if that’s the case, so how am I going to find anything out for you?”
“Just use your magic computer hacking skills!”
“You make it sound easy…”
“Oh, Ana, you should try!” Mari pipes in, scraping her bowl clean as her eyes dart excitedly between me and Elena. “I really wanna know, too!”
“Okay, okay!” If I’m honest, my own curiosity is raised now and it couldn’t hurt to look into it, right? Just to know. “I’ll try, but if I can’t figure it out by this weekend, then that’s it. I start classes soon and I won’t have anything distract me from my studies.”
