Protective energy flows off of him so strongly, I can feel it from here. Linc storms over to us, and grips the back of my neck, looking down at me.
“I don’t want you going near that shithead ever again, Belle. Do you understand?”
I nod, staring up at his intimidating face, and smile. He’s just a teddy bear disguised as a grizzly.
“Okay, Beast,” I tease him, and he narrows his eyes in warning.
“Oh, Beauty. That’s a dangerous game, like I said before. You haven’t even begun to scratch the surface with me.”
I keep my excitement to myself, but inside I’m grinning. Maybe I need time, and we definitely still need to talk about stuff, but there’s a part of me that gets giddy knowing that I might just have the time and the second chance I need to really get to know them all better. And to scratch far, far beneath Linc’s beast-like surface.
Linc takes my keys off me, passes Kelly the key to my apartment, and ushers me into the passenger seat of my own damn car before taking the driver's side for himself.
“Go to Belle’s and make sure everything’s okay. Mica stay there and make sure that asshole doesn’t turn up with any stupid ideas. Kelly, grab Belle some stuff and then bring your truck and meet us at the Andaz. After you've dropped her stuff off, find a place that’s open and get all new locks for the windows as well as the doors. As soon as Belle’s spoken to the landlord tomorrow, we’ll get them fitted.” Linc barks orders as easily and as naturally as breathing.
“I can get a cheap motel—” I try to protest, but he cuts me off.
“We’re not taking you out of one dangerous situation and into another. You’ll stay at the Andaz and I won’t hear another word said about it,” he growls. I sag down in my chair, mourning the dent to my savings the four star luxurious hotel is going to make, even for one night.
“Don't pout,” Linc snaps. “You’re not paying for a damn thing.” I open my mouth and quickly shut it again when his eyes flash dangerously. “Don’t even try my patience right now, Beauty.”
We drive to the hotel in silence after that.
