“My Mama,” she says sleepily on a yawn.
“Yep. So you’re going to be a princess someday soon too.”
“I don’t have to marry anyone do I?”
“Nope. Never if you don’t want to.”
“Good….Whit?”
“Yes, princess?”
“Will the orbs keep my nightmares away?”
“Always. Will you tell me what they’re about?”
“When you tell me the evil ice queen story.”
I chuckle. “Hard bargain, but okay.”
I reach up and tuck the covers around her, brushing my hand over her forehead instinctively. My heart feels full of love for this girl, as much as it would I’m sure if she was my actual daughter.
“Goodnight, Ade.”
“Goodnight. Will you be here in the morning?”
“I don’t think so, but we’ll be back.”
“Tell Mama I want you to stay.”
Yeah, there’s no way that I’m going to say that and sound like an absolute creeper, but I don’t have the heart to say no to this kid. I’m glad she seems to like me and the others though.
