“They sell that here?”

“We cater to all types.”

“I’ll just take the wine, thanks.”

He wanders off to get drinks, and I look around the busy bar with interest. There’s a few people I recognize from the studio, and a few I know from around town.

I’m pretty sure I just saw Gray leaving with her guys a moment ago—it still confuses me that she’s also called Misty, but hey, I’m not exactly a stranger to changing my name. Silver Springs is the first time I’ve reverted back to using my real name. I don’t know why, but I felt a peace like I’ve never known before the moment I stepped foot into the protective wards surrounding the town.

Over in the corner I can there’s a large group of women—some I know, some I don’t—all sitting and chatting, and laughing uproariously. I catch Storm’s eye and she shouts out across the bar for me to join them.

Big crowds aren’t my thing, but I do slink over to say a quick hello.

“Lumi!” Storm beams, slapping her hand down on the wooden tabletop. “You’re just who we need.”

“Oh?” I ask nervously. Storm is pretty crazy at the best of times, now she’s drunk and wants me for something? This can’t end well.

Eirwen barks a laugh and agrees with Storm that I’m the answer to all their problems. The others whoop and agree.

“What do you need ladies? I need to get back to my date,” I say with a tight smile.

The triple date I didn’t even want to come on suddenly seems a lot less intimidating than facing all these women.

“You’re on a date with Quilo right?” another woman I don’t know that well asks. I give her a blank look and she smiles. “Hi, I’m Kari.” She seems less drunk than the others. I nod. “That’s perfect! Can you talk to him about our plan?”

“Errr...yes? Sorry, what plan?” I say, distracted.

“We want to hold a charity event at the ice rink! We need the guys’ permission to use the rink and maybe you can get Quilo to put in a good word with Whit because he’s the manager.” Another woman jumps in excitedly. “Oh, hi, I’m Frostine by the way.”

“Hi, nice to meet you. I can speak to Quilo but Whit is also joining us tonight if you’d like me to speak to him directly? Or you could come over and speak to him yourself, I’m sure he’ll be here soon.”

The women all exchange knowing glances.

“Does Lumi mean, like, light or something?” Peppermint asks. I’ve only met her a handful of times, usually at the post office buying stamps..

“No. It’s Finnish for Snow. I have a crazy winter themed name,” I say with a smile. I don’t want to explain that it links to my powers.

More smirks.

“So…” I shift uncomfortably. “Do you want to speak to Whit yourself or…”

“Oh no,” Storm beams at me before hiccuping. “We wouldn’t dream of interrupting your ass taco time.”

“My what?”

“She means your date,” Eirwen adds.

“It’s not a da—”

“Who’s the other?” Kari asks.

“Hmm? Excuse me?” I have one eye on Quilo now who’s just been served and is paying for our drinks. I need to get out of here.

“The other guy? There’s always three,” Peppermint smirks.

“At least!” Eirwen adds excitedly.

“Erm...it’s Yas…you know the—”
