“When does your season start?” I ask out of the blue.

“Early October.”

Nodding, I turn to him. “Is that when you’ll start travelling and training more?”

“The travel will start, yeah. But training will tone down a little. I won’t be as strict as I am right now.”

“So you’ll be able to eat cookies and cakes again.”

He glances at me quickly, a smile on his face. “In moderation yes.”

“What’s a moderate amount in your books?”

“I don’t know. One cookie?”

“A day?” I cry out, horrified.

“Uh-huh.”

“You have the craziest willpower of anyone I know.”

“Honestly, I’d rather indulge by eating a pizza than a cookie.”

“I don’t think we can see each other anymore. Pull over here, please.”

Chuckling at my dramatics, Grant reaches over and places his hand on my knee. “Pixie,” he starts.

“You don’t even eat cheese! How could you pick pizza over cookies? We just made sprinkles together. I’ve fallen for the enemy.”

The SUV stops. Lifting my head, I see we’re parked in a side-street lot. My seatbelt is released in the blink of an eye and I’m being lifted onto Grant’s lap.

“Babe, if you want cookies, I’ll eat cookies.”

“I want you to eat what makes you happy.” This is the most ridiculous argument I have ever had. I don’t know why this is hitting me so hard.

“You make me happy. So, if I have to eat cookie to make you happy, I will.”

“I love cookies,” I moan.

“I know Pix. I know.”

“I don’t know why I’m reacting this way.”

He doesn’t say anything, just holds me tighter. I squeeze him back.

“You okay?”

“Yeah,” I reply, my voice muffled in his t-shirt. “I think I’m suffering from heat exhaustion. The kitchen was hot this morning.”

“The oven wasn’t even on.”

“I was talking about you.”

His chest shakes with laughter, causing me to shake with it. “Come on, crazy. Let’s go test out some sofas and then go eat.”

“I like the way you think.” Placing me back in the passenger seat, I slide out of the car and meet Grant at the front. Taking my hand, we walk into the store. The rest of the day is spent in total bliss and yummy food.
