The sea witch’s laugh thundered down my spine.

Blood froze in my veins.

Tentacles ripped the trident from my grasp, grabbing both my arms and holding them out wide.

“Now you die, sweet princess.” The slippery voice crawled along me like sea snails.

Without my hands free, my powers were useless. The way she compressed my neck, I didn’t have long before she crushed my throat and my life along with it.

“Nemo,” I called to him since he was closest to me.

He responded to my desperation, harpooning the sea witch, and she retaliated by flicking him away with her magic.

My gaze flew to Fin, desperate for him to save me. His eyes burned with pain that said he couldn’t help…not with three mersoldiers holding him to the ground.

To Fin’s left, a soldier stabbed Gill in the back of his tail. Blood poured from the wound, and he curled over.

I cried out in pain inside my mind. My men were going to die if I didn’t do something and fast.

The witch’s tentacle tightened, and I bucked, unable to breathe.

Everything flashed before my eyes. My fake engagement. The spell on my father’s mind. My kidnapping. Meeting my mermen. Losing my virginity to Fin. Finding three mermen I loved.

The sea witch was not going to take them from me!

An explosion went off inside me. My power came out in a deluge that swept the witch across the cavern and whisked the mersoldiers off my men and tossed them into the wall. The witch’s landed on the throne, where a prong pierced her chest. The witch’s mouth flew open, and her eyes grew wide. After a few moments, her eyes closed as her body went limp.

Magic drained from her body and fizzled, going out forever. Dark swirls of octopus ink leeched from her, staining the water. Her flesh disappeared as if made from the very dye itself. In a few short seconds, she was no more than a blob of ink floating in the water.
