My heart cracks some more.

Jackson's not big on affection. I think he still battles with what happened to his baby sister and how his dad treated him all those years. But there are times when he glances at Wesley, or holds him, and I know he's healing. Little by little, Wesley is healing Jackson, too.

I lift him off the ground, making Rose grumble in the process, and hand him off to Jackson. He curls his hand around Wesley’s body possessively as he holds him close. Pressing his lips to the top of his head, he mumbles something that even I can't hear.

He does that a lot. Whispers to Wesley. I've asked him before, but he just gives me a dead stare and completely ignores me.

Whatever.

"She was lingering around for about an hour but left about thirty or so minutes ago." Easton says, snapping my gaze away from Jackson's rare affectionate moment.

"She hung around that long?"

Easton nods. "I went out on the deck for a few minutes and stared her down, and then she finally disappeared. I'd watch for her though. I'm thinkin' she'll be back again."

"Oh, I know my mother. She'll definitely be back." I roll my eyes, worry washing over me.

"I'll call Hugo. He can get a few people together to watch over the place while we’re gone."

"When are you leaving?" I ask. Jackson mentioned something about Easton and Hugo heading out to California, but I didn't think it was happening already.

"Tomorrow morning." He says, glancing at Rose. I look over my shoulder at her and see her scowling at Easton.

"What's that look for?" I laugh.

"He's not letting me go with him this time."

Easton sighs and heads towards the door. "I already told you. I'm only going there for a quick business trip. Cara's not even going this time, so it's not like there's really anything for you to do."

"I can go to the beach!" She pouts.

"It's too fucking dangerous, Rose. Quit asking me." He barks at her.

I sigh. I fight with Jackson a lot, but these two are already like an old married couple.

When Wesley starts fussing, I take that as my cue. "Well, I'm going to go feed him. Thank you, guys, for watching him while we went to the doctor. Oh! And good news apparently."

Easton perks up. "What happened?"

"There is improvement in Jackson's tests results."

"No shit." He looks at Jackson wide eyed.

Jackson shrugs.

"Quit downplaying this shit, man. That's good fucking news." He slaps him on the back.

"It'll be good fucking news once I can walk my ass out of this chair."

"You'll get there." I say, smiling at him as I lift Wesley out of his arms.

He gives me a look, his eyes heating up when he glances down my plunging top.

"Call Hugo, would you? I don't want that bitch even in the park when my son's here." He tells Easton, his gaze not leaving mine.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll call him now." He says, already on his way out the door.

"I'll call you later, Cara! I guess I'll be over here to hangout since this asshole won't let me go with him." Rose says as she stands up.
