She sat back at the counter and ate the food Hunt made her even though her stomach went tight the moment he’d left the room.

Hunt threw the bedroom door open and rushed out. “Did you eat?” The urgency in his voice caught her attention.

She set down the glass of cranberry juice he’d left for her. “Yes. It was delicious. Thank you. Want me to heat up your plate?”

“No time. We need to go. Now. Finish off that juice. I have a water bottle in the car if you need it, too. Where are your shoes?” He started checking by the sofa, then by the door.

“They’re in the bedroom next to the bed.”

He ran back in there.

She started after him, but stopped short when he came out again, and shoved her shoes into her chest and hands. “Hunt. Slow down. What is going on?” She was talking to his back as he ran to the mudroom, disappeared for a moment, then came out carrying a pair of her panties and her bra.

“Put these on. You’ll need a jacket or sweater.” He disappeared into the mudroom again, then came out carrying a black zip-up hoodie. “This is clean. You can use it.” He looked at her. “You’re not dressing.”

“I’m not moving until you tell me what is going on. This isn’t like you.”

He stopped in front of her. “I have a lead on Lana, but it’s a dangerous situation. I don’t want to do this, but it might be the only way to get her back.”

“Why wouldn’t you want to get her back?”

“I do, but it means putting your life on the line again.”

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Hunt pulled into the bar’s parking lot in Blackrock Falls and cut the engine an hour after they ran out of the house to his car. For all the rush he’d been in, inside he’d wanted to lock her in the house and never let her out again. Especially not to do this.

Cyn had spent all of the drive here on the phone with her mom, assuring her that she was fine.

Her mom sounded like she was in a bad place. And who wouldn’t be? But Cyn calmed her down, they shared a few stories about Angela and Cyn promised to be there soon to help make the arrangements for Angela’s funeral.

She never mentioned that they were on their way to hopefully get Lana back.

“I thought we were going to some biker club.” Cyn stared out the window at the bar’s neon sign.

He’d outlined the basic information he’d received. A guy who goes by Viper, in the motorcycle club, called the bar and told Lyric the baby was with the club’s president’s sister. Due to what happened yesterday and the press surrounding the case and manhunt for Rad, the baby was taken to the club so no one, including the cops, found out the woman had the missing baby. Viper didn’t know how long they’d keep the baby there before they moved her, or did something else with her, because no one associated with the club wanted to be caught with a kidnapped baby.

“I need to check in here with my cousin who took the call.”

She eyed him. “Your cousin?”

“Yeah. The family owns the bar.” He slipped out of the car, not wanting to waste any more time.

Cyn met him at the front end and took his hand. “I need to get caught up on your family tree.”

“They’re Wildes. My dad’s brother, my aunt and four cousins.” Hunt walked in the front door to a bar that was bright with all the lights on because they were closed this early in the day.

Aria sat at the bar drinking coffee and doing paperwork. She turned at the sound of the door. “Finally. We’re all so anxious about this.”

At that, Lyric and Melody came out of the swinging door that led into the small kitchen and rushed him.

He braced himself for the three women to surround and hug him. He hadn’t seen them in a while and it was good to catch them all in his arms and remind himself he had a lot of family support.

“Uh, Wilde, you want to introduce me?”

He turned to Cyn and caught the jealous and defensive look she gave him before she scanned the three dark-haired, blue-eyed Wildes.

Aria spoke before he could say anything. “How the hell did you get such a beautiful woman to like your ugly ass?”
