Rad nodded at her like he’d read her mind. “She never did anything right. She wanted a fight. She got one.” Rad’s seething gaze went to Hunt. “So you’ll get the fuck out of here, my official statement is this... We had an argument. Things got heated.” Rad turned so Hunt could see the scratch marks on the side of his neck and jaw. “She left and she’s not coming back.”

Cyn turned to Hunt. “She wouldn’t just leave. Not alone. She’d come to me. She was supposed to come to me. We had a plan.”

Rad folded his arms over his chest and glared at her, but didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to. He knew. Whatever argument he had with Angela had ended with her telling him she was leaving.

And oh God...

Cyn bent at the waist, feeling her sour gut pitch with the god-awful truth.

She was never going to see her sister again.

She whipped her head up and pinned Hunt in her gaze. “Arrest him. He killed my sister.”

Sympathy warmed Hunt’s blue eyes. “We will start searching for Angela immediately,” he promised her.

“Arrest him. Make him tell you where he hid her body.”

Rad held his arms out wide and silently dared Hunt with a go-ahead look.

“Cyn, I...”

She slammed her hands against his chest. “Arrest him!”

Hunt took her face in his hands and held her still. “I can’t.”

She shoved him away from her. “You won’t.”

Rad actually came to Hunt’s defense. “He can’t because there’s no evidence I did anything wrong. As you can see, her car is gone. She left.”

“You killed her!” Cyn tried to go after Rad, but Hunt wrapped his arms around her middle and held her back.

“Stop,” he ordered, his lips pressed to her ear. “This is not the way to do this.”

“If you won’t do your fucking job, then I’ll see justice done my way.” She struggled to get free of Hunt’s hold but he was just too strong.

Rad sneered at her. “Careful, Cyn. I might take that as a threat and file charges against you.”

She stopped fighting Hunt’s hold and looked Rad in the eye. “You will pay for this. I will find them.”

Hunt went still at her back. “Them?”

Rad’s gaze narrowed. “She’s mine.”

Cyn gave him a very insincere smile. “Prove it. Imade sure Angela never put your name on the birth certificate. With your record for assault, the numerous domestic dispute calls the police were called here for and the fact that you’re now unemployed . . . I’ll have no trouble getting custody of her.”

“Did you and Angela have a baby?” Hunt asked, putting the pieces together. “When?”

“Six weeks ago,” Cyn answered, never taking her eyes off Rad. “And this asshole spent the last six weeks angry that Angela was exhausted, suffering from postpartum depression and doing her best to take care of an infant on her own because he couldn’t be bothered to lift a finger to help.”

Hunt had loosened his grip on her, though he still held her against him. Maybe to offer comfort that right now she didn’t want because she was too angry and devastated and anxious to know where Rad took her niece because while she believed him capable of killing Angela, she didn’t want to think him so callous, coldhearted and evil that he’d kill an innocent baby.

“Where is she?” Her voice went raw, she screamed it so loud.

Rad shrugged. “Maybe she’s with Angela. Maybe she’s somewhere else. Either way, it’s none of your fucking business where my kid is.”

Cyn tried to go after him again, but Hunt held tight and lifted her right off her feet. She kicked and squirmed and tried with all her might to get loose.

“Stop it, Cyn. You’re not going to get what you want this way. He wants you to do something stupid so I’ll have no choice but to arrest you.”
