He handed it to me, and I stuck it in my back pocket.

“You’re not gonna read it?” he challenged.

“I will.” Just not with him breathing down my neck. This was a staring contest, and I wasn’t going to look away first.

I knew that he was pissed, but at this point, he wasn’t the only one. I’d never do anything to hurt Cheyenne and if he thought I would then he didn’t know jack shit about me.

“It’s time.” Hank appeared beside us and Billy stood and walked to the bow joining Jimmy and Pastor Lee.

I sat down on the seat nearest to me just as music began to play.

There was a round of ‘awws’ and I turned to see Luna who was still wearing the cast that she’d gotten on Billy’s wedding day walking down the pier with Jimmy’s dog Sherlock who was carrying a basket of rose petals in his mouth while Luna scattered them.

“That is the cutest!”

“What a doll!”

The crowd cheered as Luna and Sherlock walked up the plank onto the boat. Behind her was her mom Skylar, and then Reagan. I held my breath knowing that Cheyenne was next.

When I saw her the breath that I’d been holding was stolen from my lungs. She was wearing the same powder blue, flowing dress that Skylar and Reagan had worn but somehow on her the dress looked ethereal. Like she was a living angel.

Her eyes met mine for only the briefest of moments before she looked down at the plank she had to climb to board the boat.

This was the second time I’d watched her walk down the aisle, and this time, even more than the first, I wished that it was me she was meeting at the end.

After last night, I knew more than ever that I wanted to marry Cheyenne Comfort. Not just because the sex had been so incredible. It wasn’t about the physical connection that we’d shared. It was the emotional and spiritual connection. That was what made last night so special.

The wedding march began and everyone stood. I was surprised to see Isabella walking down the aisle with her father Miles Santini. He’d been featured last month in Forbes magazine and was a titan of industry. I wasn’t sure exactly what he did, other than be rich and run many successful businesses.

I’d heard they had a strained relationship, but from the way he was tearing up and smiling as he gave her away, it looked like things were better. Or he was a good actor.

Cheyenne’s eyes were focused on the bride and groom as Isabella’s father placed her hand in Jimmy’s and they took their place at the altar. There was a round of “awws” and then chuckles as Jimmy waxed poetic about how beautiful Isabella looked as he lifted her hand, kissing her on the knuckle before placing his hand on his heart and pretending as if her beauty was making it hard for him to breathe.

As entertaining as Jimmy was, I couldn’t stop scanning back over to Cheyenne no matter how hard I tried to keep my attention on the ceremony.

She looked breathtakingly beautiful in a blue dress that hugged her body. Her body that I now knew like the back of my hand. The only thing that kept me from staring was the heated stare I’d feel coming from Billy every time I looked at his little sister.

I knew that he had questions. I could hear him now. “What the fuck happened between you two?” I was honestly shocked that those weren’t the first words that had come out of his mouth as soon as he saw me. But they weren’t.

I knew that he’d wanted to say more, but he hadn’t. He was biting his tongue so hard I was sure that there’d be blood coming off of it.

As Jimmy and Isabella exchanged vows, I watched Cheyenne tear up. I knew how happy she was for her brother and friend. I also knew that she wanted what they had. I just hoped that she wanted it with me.
