Small fragments of memories came back to me beginning with me deciding I was going to dance with Cash and seduce him. I remember feeling so empowered, so sexy as I’d made my way gracefully across the room and the dance floor parted in a cinematic way. The reality of the situation was I’d been bumping into people making an ass of myself.

My cheeks heated as I watched myself stumble the last few feet and fall into Cash’s arms. Then I grabbed his shirt with both hands and dragged the poor man onto the dance floor before I began gyrating against him.

“I can’t watch anymore.” I handed the phone back to her and moved my hand up to cover my eyes. “How much worse does it get?”

“I think you saw the worst of it. Yeah, look.”

When I peeked through my fingers, I saw Cash carrying me out of the tent.

He looked so strong, so capable, so sexy. Even though the situation was humiliating, I had to admit that watching him Officer-and-a-Gentleman-me out of the reception was hot. Really hot.

I just wished that I actually remembered it.

I took the phone back and replayed the last thirty seconds. Isabella was right. I had seen the worst of it. After I ground up against him, he scooped me up in his arms and got me out of there.

“You don’t remember any of this?” she asked.

“No. I don’t remember Cash carrying me. Or him taking me home. I screamed this morning when I saw him.”

Her forehead creased. “So, he did stay the night?”

“Yes, but not like that. He put me to bed and stayed on the couch with the cats.” I could tell from the indention and the cat hair. “This morning he made sure I was okay, made me breakfast and didn’t even stay to eat it.”

He also fed my cats and changed the litter boxes, which had now moved to the number one most romantic thing anyone had ever done for me.

“That’s sweet.” She grinned.

Yeah, and she didn’t even know about the litter box.

“So, what’s the last thing you remember about yesterday?”

“The meeting. But only bits and pieces. I know Hank was talking about the accident. And was there something about a guy named Wayne?”

Isabella filled me in on everything that I’d missed or just didn’t remember. The crash had been an accident due to the rainy weather conditions and the sharp turn of the road. She told me that my mom hadn’t been alone, she’d been with a man named Wayne that she was running away with. A man that she was pregnant by.

That was new information to me. I didn’t remember anything about a baby.

“So this guy, Wayne, could he be my father?” I asked.

Isabella shrugged. “I don’t know. But we can find out.”

Isabella worked for her father and had access to a lab that studied genetics. She was able to fast-track DNA results and had offered to test anyone that we thought might be a contender.

I bit the inside of my lip as a wave of apprehension washed over me.

Isabella must have noticed because she added, “If you want to find out, that is.”

Did I want to find out?

I’d always believed that James Comfort was my father and that he’d allowed my grandparents to take me away from him without even putting up a fight. What if I found my biological father and found out that he’d known I existed all this time and had no interest in having me in his life?

I wasn’t exactly sure how much more rejection I could take.

That was the million-dollar question.

Actually, the real million-dollar question had been if there was foul play involved in my mother’s accident. That was the fifty-million-dollar question that had apparently been answered. But I knew my grandparents would do anything to keep the trust frozen, which meant I wasn’t going to hold my breath for a check in the mail anytime soon.

I didn’t know who my father was. I’d made a complete fool of myself at my brother’s wedding. And I was hopelessly in love with my brother’s best friend and that love was looking more and more like it was unrequited.

Oh, and I was still a virgin.

Maybe I just needed to take a step back and reevaluate my life. Figure out what I really wanted and what I was willing to sacrifice or face to get it.

Cause that sounded like a lot of fun…
