“Unless we fly, and I vanish into thin air!” she interjected.

“Then we won’t fly. At least you won’t. I will have to on occasion, for work, but you don’t need to. I love exploring Europe and planning road trips, so we’ll take our vacations by car, or on a ship. Maybe take a cruise? The point I am trying to make is this, don’t repress who you are. Everyone is different and we all have different needs. So long as we’re not hurting anyone, or doing something illegal, then our relationship is nobody’s business but our own. We’ll work out a schedule that suits us, something that gives us what we both need. We’ll evolve together, grow old together... And Penny?” Gently he turned her to face him. “If you want a child, we can have a baby. We’ll hire a nanny for the times you need your little downtime. There is no need to suppress any part of you. I adore all the elements that make up Penny Forrester, my wife. I want to love you to the end of my days and keep your fears at bay.”

He smiled down at her, deeply touched by the sight of her trembling lip and the shimmering tears that welled in her eyes.

“Oh, David... Daddy,” she said softly and wept against his shirt front.

“I do hope this means you love me,” he said, amused.

She stood on tiptoe and briefly pressed her mouth to his.

“Yes, it does,” she whispered against his lips. “I want to design furniture for the littles furniture company we own, as Penny did, but I should also like to begin designing a range of bedding and soft furnishings. Maybe we can return to the baby discussion in a year or so; after all, we have our fur baby, Honey, don’t we?”

“Hey, I love the bedding range idea, and yeah, we have our Honey girl. I miss her.”

“I do too, I had no idea you could love a dog as much I do now. I’m so sorry that my absentmindedness hurt her.”

He wrapped her tight in his arms and squeezed. “We’ve put that in the past. The important thing is she is all right and we’re together.”

She wiped her eyes. “Yes.”

“What do you think the Penny I married would have done when she arrived in your dimension?”

She placed her palm against his cheek comfortingly.

“I have thought about that a lot too,” she said.

“It torments me... don’t misunderstand me, I love you with all my heart, but I still love her too... I just wish to God I knew she was all right.”

“Sh-sh, I completely understand. I worry about her too. After all, sheisme,” she said. “I honestly believe that she would try and find you. It’s what I’ll do if I ever find myself switched back into my old life.”

Her words reassured him. “I hope you’re right and she does find the other me,” he said ruefully, pulling her into his arms.

“I do too. Now take me to bed and let me show you how much I love you for a change... I can’t envisage my life without you, David, you gorgeous American daddy of mine!”
