LILY

One week later…

I wakeup in the most comfortable bed I’ve ever been in.

I stretch happily, a smile on my face. The suite at the Ritz is gorgeous, the height of luxury, with stunning antique furniture, a sitting area and a fireplace. We’ve been here three days, and I’m just about over the jet lag, but it’s hard not to spend all day in bed when I’m in a palace like this.

And have my very own prince to keep me occupied.

“Nero?” I yawn, sitting up. I assume he’s in the palatial bathroom, until I see a note left on the pillow beside me.

Getting breakfast, be back soon. X

I smile, getting out of the bed and pulling on the luxurious hotel robe. I hurry over to the massive widows, and pull back the drapes, letting out a sigh of excitement when I take in the perfect view of the Eiffel Tower. I don’t even want to know what Nero splurged to buy us this amazing room, but it was worth it, every penny.

It never gets old.

“Was that a good sigh?” Nero’s voice comes, and he enters the suite.

“The best. I can’t get over this view,” I say.

“Nothing like it.” Nero’s eyes rove hungrily over my body, and I giggle.

“I was talking about the view out there.”

“Yeah. Sure. Whatever.” He pulls me into his arms and claims my mouth in a sizzling kiss.

When we come up for air, I notice the white paper bag in his hand. I can already smell that something delicious is inside. “You didn’t need to go out for food. I think the Ritz offers room service,” I tease, and he smiles.

“The café two blocks down. I saw you eyeballing their croissants yesterday, so I decided they would make a good breakfast. They had fresh strawberries too. Redder than I’ve ever seen.”

I smile, excited to try the pastries. All the food here is amazing, rich and decadent. Every meal is an event.

Including this one. Nero pulls back the curtains on the doors leading to the balcony, and I follow him out there. There’s a small metal table and two chairs on the balcony, and Nero sets up our breakfast. He’s brought coffee too, and I sit back, sipping the sweet brew. “This is perfect,” I say happily.

My phone rings. “It’s Teddy,” I announce happily.

“Wait a sec,” Nero reaches over and tugs my robe closed. “There, family friendly.”

“Whoops!” I laugh, then accept my brother’s video call.

“Want to see the most perfect croissant in the world?” I ask, taking a bite.

“More perfect than the pic you sent yesterday?” Teddy asks, grinning. “My message feed is nothing but food!”

“Because it’s so good!” I retort. “Anyway, why are you up so late? Isn’t it like three in the morning there?”

“I just got home from a party. I thought I’d check in. How’s that husband of yours treating you?”

I glance over at Nero, who has a mouthful of croissant.

“Just fine, and he can hear you, FYI.”

Teddy shrugs. “He gets it. We have an understanding.”

“An understanding?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Yeah. He treats you right, and I don’t kick his ass.”
