Chapter 1

Headed to Draconis, Earth

The ship was orbiting above the planet waiting for them to load the shuttle so they could go. Everyone was packed and ready since they’d been told a week ago. Toni looked excited since she had not had an opportunity to travel in a long time if ever. Ranger was happy to give her this opportunity and he was sure she would enjoy it. The country was in Africa but unfortunately it was landlocked. To have access to the ocean would have made this place perfect.

It was hard to believe that they had managed to buy a country, but they had agreed to deal fairly with the tribes in that country. There were a few but none of them claimed much land. Their intention was to take their village as a starting point and go out a certain distance in each direction. Enough land would be given to them that they would be able to see to their needs now and a little extra to allow for future growth. They would also place money aside for any current or future needs they might have.

His people were nothing, if not fair. They would also set large sections of land aside as parks. These would be selected based partly on any unusual landscape such as caves, lakes, or mountains. A couple of these parks might be used to run safaris on. To begin with, they would just be for photographs or videos. A few tracks would be set aside as private land where the dragons could fly. There was so much to do that it almost seemed as if it was too much to accomplish. He intended them to do it anyway.

Locals that needed jobs would be hired whenever possible. But he suspected that many of the positions they needed filled locals could not provide. Right now, many locals have been hired for the casino and to build all the buildings that were needed. This building phase would last for years and never entirely end. This country would be expected to make money. The emperor would give them enough time to get established before he had those expectations. The casino was already showing a profit.

There were so many possibilities which also meant there were many choices still to make. They had their boarding call, and everyone began to gather near the shuttles. When it appeared that everyone had made it, they began to load the shuttles. It was no surprise that Toni ended up on the same one that he did. They had even placed them in seats next to each other.

“Have you visited here before?” Toni's voice pulled him out of his musings.

“Of course. We had a lot of decisions to make, and we decided to try to bring our country into modern times.

“How hard will that be to do? What level are they at right now?”

“My guess would be somewhere in the 1800s, but we are already pulling it forward a little at a time.” Ranger guessed.

“It sounds like you think this will be a challenging job.”

“That is what I believe but it will be a worthwhile job.”

“Has anybody been given a specific job yet?” Toni wondered.

“I don't know. This project is not managed by me.”

“Who is managing the project?”

“That would be Carler. He wants to assess what level things are right now and what the next step will be. At that point, he will begin to assign managers to different areas based on their skills. I believe that he will probably put me in charge of one of the parks that we hope to develop. We want to do as little to them as possible, but they need to be fenced off and will want to get a veterinarian in to examine all the animals and a biologist to check out the plants. At that point he would see if anything else needs to be done.” Ranger explained.

“Designing and running a National Park sounds extremely exciting.”

“Maybe you’ll get to help me at some point.”

“I don't know. That will be for Carler to decide.” Toni admitted.

Ranger wished he didn't have so much to keep up with because he kept forgetting that Toni didn't realize that he was in charge of everything. When they mated, he would have to come clean and tell her the truth about everything. That would not be easy because he knew she would feel misled. Right now, they were headed down to the planet but since several people were on their shuttle that had no clue if they had gone into space since all the windows were darkened to where no one could tell.

It wouldn't be long, and they would be landing. Toni’s suite was next to her brothers and she would want to see him right away. He had completed his first year in college here and she was so excited about that. Because of the college he previously finished, he was getting an associate degree. She had really appreciated that because if he got off track at least he would have a degree even if it wasn't the one, he was going for.

His mate add been amazed that they had accepted all of his credits from the college he had completed elsewhere. Her brother had a part time job at the casino in the kitchen at the restaurant. Since he was attending college on a fully paid scholarship, the part time job gave him all the spending money he needed.

Ranger was aware that she felt that she owed them, and he didn't feel bad for using that to get her to come with them. He knew that this decision would be good for all of them. Since he had been a leader of males for many years, it was clear to him it's sometimes a little manipulation was a good thing. Earth women sometimes had a hard time making a decision, so he had simply helped her along. They had just landed at the airport. As he helped her off the shuttle, he looked at a very large and modern airport.

They wouldn't be going into the building because they had a bus waiting on them. There were actually two buses because they would hold all the people they had brought with them. These weren't just regular buses they were very luxurious. It was these buses that they would take when they were traveling to other parts of this country. Regardless of what project Toni ended up being on he planned to be on it too.

Ranger and Toni would load the bus first, but they would also be off first, and they would sit in the front. They would also have guards two each that would make sure they were protected especially since there was a rumor that the old mob guy who had still managed to avoid the law, planned to come to their country and look for Davy. Could anyone say obsessed?

That just goes to show that he wasn't a smart as everyone thought he was. If he came here and he was caught he would be subject to the laws of another country, not the US. Maybe he would disappear and go into space and be lost at one of their prisons. That's why Ranger didn't believe he would come in person. He would send someone he considered expendable. Maybe he thought to kick up a fuss one his male never made it back home. With all the wild animals in their new country it would be very easy to fake an attack.

There was not much that could be complained about if people thought an animal simply ate him. Ranger hope the guy came in himself and their problems with his organization would be over. It wasn't like they didn't have enough problems beyond that. Some of the rebels had found their way to Earth. They claimed to hate this place and its people, yet they were living here, that made no sense at all. He suspected they might be trying to take over this country and subjugate the locals here.

Those rebels apparently didn't know anything. He had a force of humans with the best weapons available on Earth. His team of humans were well paid and happy. It was very unlikely any of them would let him down.

“That airport is amazing. Aren’t we going to have to go through the line?” Toni asked.
