She nods and twists her lips to the corner of her mouth, nibbling the bottom one. She leans back in her chair, clasping her hands on her desk. “So, I hear you’ve got a man. That’s nice. Funny how we’ve never met,” she says.

“Oh, I mean, I have been hanging out with somebody but it’s not that serious. We’ve only been on a few dates,” I tell her.

“Only a few dates? Wow.” She nods.

She reaches under her desk and I think she’s about to pull out a weapon, so I reach under my skirt to pull mine out just in case, eyeing her every movement but it’s just her phone. I sigh in relief, putting the weapon back in the holder on my leg.

She starts scrolling through her phone and her face is trying its hardest to appear peaceful but I can see the tiny vein pulsing through her forehead and the indentation in her cheek from the clenching of her teeth.

“Is this him?” she asks, turning the phone to me and I find myself staring at a zoomed in picture of my man.

Okay. I shut my eyes and count to three before raising my head, ready for whatever comes next. “Yeah,” I confirm.

“That’s disappointing,” she says.

Chapter 30

Julissa

“John?!”

I watch as Selena rushes toward the man tied up in a chair in the punishment room. She’s in hysterics, taking care to touch the wounds on his face, crying as she examines his swollen eyes. He looks nothing like the man I picked up earlier who was all smiles and charms, suave and sophisticated until I tore him apart, letting a frightened victim run free. He knew who I was when he saw me too so I don’t know why he thought his charms would work on me. I guess it had something to do with the fact that he didn’t think I knew who he was.

“John?” I ask her. “Is that his real name? This fucker had so many fucking passports on him, I’m not sure he even fucking remembers who the hell he is anymore.”

She spins around to look at me in rage and that fires me up even more. How dare she look at me like she’s the one who's meant to be mad?

“Okay, fine. You got me!” she cries. “I’m the one who leaked the information about your address but I knew you’d be fine. You’re always fucking fine but he wouldn’t be!” she yells.

She just poured kerosene oil on the fire already set ablaze inside of me and I tear my eyes open at her, feeling like they’re about to pop right out of my head. “You knew I would be okay? You knew I’d be okay?! You gave the fucking Mafia my home address where you knew I’d be home alone and I’d have no protection! Don’t give me that bullshit!”

“Well you are okay, aren’t you? Wouldn’t you have done the same for the man you love?” she asks.

“Love? Bitch? You don’t know this fucking man!” I yell.

“No, you don’t! This man is the fucking kindest person I’ve ever met and I didn’t do what I did to hurt you. I did it to save his family!” she yells. “You can’t fathom that, can you? You’re so stuck in your own vendetta, you don’t realize other people have different problems and while you may not know the meaning of family, it doesn’t mean that I don’t.”

A sharp pain hits me on the right side of my head, near my eyes and it pulls as if it’s pulling on the side of my brain, almost numbing me in the process of stabbing me. “Don’t tell me you’re that fucking dumb and naive.” I look at her in disbelief, my face going slack from the shock. “Do you have any idea how stupid you sound?” I ask.

“Don’t insult me,” she says, walking towards me.

“Oh, you’re willing to throw hands because of this nasty motherfucker?” I ask her. “You don’t even know, do you?”

“Let him go,” she demands.

“Over my fucking dead body,” I say.

“Julissa, don’t fucking do this. Let him go,” she says, still advancing toward me.

“Or what?” I ask. “You’ll fight me over a nasty ass fucking trafficker?”

She pauses as if something just shot her in the back, stilling her. She even seems to vibrate a bit as she blinks as if doing so will help her press rewind on the tape in her head to make sure that she heard me correctly.

“You’re lying,” she says, staring at me in complete shock.

The bitch really didn’t know. That changes nothing for me.

“If the fucker could still speak after swallowing those fucking fake ass teeth, he’d tell you himself. This nasty fuck sold you a bunch of bullshit and you bought it. Whether you’d like to believe it or not, I caught this moldy ass crack trying to traffic a woman past the border today. He thought he was slick, choosing to walk in with her as if that would change anything. Still caught the piece of shit myself and it took a while for me to beat a confession out of him but he finally ‘spill the tea’ as Jaya would say. Your frog faced boyfriend sitting in the chair over there works for the Russian Mafia and they used your stupid ass to lead them to me and I just can’t imagine why in the fucking hell you would choose to risk my life the way you did over a man you don’t even fucking know?!”
