“Well, they won’t know I am hanging around all, day after day, will they? They’ll know I was here during their appointment, but I could have left right after them, as far as they know. And it’s not like the same clients come in every day, right?”

“No,” Eden admitted. “People usually bring their dogs in every four to six weeks.”

“There you go,” Chandler said, as if the matter was settled. “The trial will have already happened by the time these particular clients come in again, so they’ll have no reason to think it’s strange you happened to have your boyfriend hanging around the last time they came by.”

“And if they see you putting up cameras and things?”

“Just tell them I do carpentry on the side and I’m helping you out fixing some things around here.”

The idea still seemed off-the-wall to her, but she had to admit that he was right. A fake relationship probably was the best option they had at the moment, and the least complicated lie. And considering everything else going on inside her head, easy was good.

“Okay. Fine. I’ll start mentioning it to customers today if they ask. If they don’t, we’ll just leave them to wonder.”
