She pushed the fabric up. Her mouth slackened, then she raised a trembling hand to the jewel and touched the smooth surface as if she didn’t believe the gem hung around her neck. Then her head whipped to him where he stood in the doorway. “Is this…? You found my grandmother’s necklace? How?”

“I contacted Hebert Security and asked for their best analyst. She was more than happy to help. Apparently, humans keep pawn records for some time.”

“Hebert only has one analyst. Did she know you asked for me?”

“Yes. And she shared the information which had drawn her attention to my operation, even suggesting ways to purge the data.”

“I don’t know how you got this so quickly, and I have no idea how I’ll repay you. I loved my grandma with all my heart and its loss ate at me for a long time. Now the necklace is home.” She swallowed and turned shining, suede brown eyes to him. “I’m home.”

She cupped his cheek, rose on her toes, and placed her lips against his, leading in a sweet, drugging kiss. When she pulled away, she brought a hand to the black silk.

He stayed her fingers from tugging the handkerchief down. “The first time I make love to you, I want to see your face, see the wonder in your eyes, watch as you scream my name.”

“You promise me all of that?” She tugged the fabric free and allowed the folds to drop to the floor while she wound her arms around his neck.

Her playful skepticism tugged at his heart. Since when had he been able to laugh with a lover?

Caro tilted her head and studied him. “What’s wrong?”

He kissed the tip of her nose. “Not a thing. I promise you all of that, plus a lifetime of making assholes pay.”

A smile brighter than fae fyre crystal spread across her features. “Deal.”
