"Shit," Bain muttered. "Bear shifter."

"Is that bad?" I accepted Knox's hand and rose to my feet. My legs felt wobbly. When Knox put an arm around me. I leaned against him for support.

"They're notorious for being violent and bad tempered," Bain replied.

"Like you?" I joked weakly.

He smiled slightly and equally wry. "Much worse than me. Where do you think the expression 'like a bear with a sore head' came from?"

I grimaced. "Couldn't they be teddy bears instead? Or something else cuddly, like koalas?"

The guys all exchanged glances.

"What?" I asked.

"We'll tell you all about koalas later." Knox looked at his watch. "We should get going."

Bain nodded. "Right. Mount up."

I let Knox lead me back to Bain's bike and help me onto the back. He looked like he wanted to sit behind me and hold me in place, but there wasn't room.

"I'll be okay," I assured him. "As long as we don't meet anymore pissed off bears, tigers, foxes, or koalas."

He smiled and squeezed my shoulder gently. "I'll be right behind you if we do."

I smiled back tentatively. "Just remember Wesley has no more instruments to throw at them."

Wesley winced.

"Too soon?" I asked.

"I think it might always be too soon. Until he gets a replacement." Knox stepped back, jammed his helmet on and gave me a boyish grin. "Never fear, we'll sort it out when we get back to the city."

I wasn't sure if he meant the lyaer or something else. Either way, I watched his cute little ass until he climbed onto his own bike.

"I'm starting to think," Bain said slowly, "Everyone should travel with a lyaer. Or at least a small drum."

"Or a rocket launcher," I said.

He considered for a moment, then grunted his agreement. "Or one of those."

"Are you going to ask Dex for one too?" I asked, only half joking. "You could fire it out of the helicopter."

"I suspect that might be seen as a declaration of war against the shifters who disagree with him and the Alpha, but I won't rule it out if it becomes necessary."

"You're not going to war to protect me," I said firmly. "I'll hand myself over to them first."

Whoever the fuck 'them' was.

"It won't come to that," he said, equally firm. "We'll find out what's going on and get it sorted out." He seemed certain.

"If you say so," I muttered.

"I do say so. Now, put your arms around me. I don't want you falling off."

Because I didn't want that either, I did what he said.

He started the engine and kicked up the stand.
