"When this is over, will you train me?" I found myself asking.

"You want to be a guard?" He sounded amused.

"No, I want to kick ass, even without power. I hate feeling powerless. I should have learnt to use something other than a bow." Me learning anything wouldn't have gone unnoticed, but I could have insisted. Or at least tried.

"I'm pretty sure you're handy with a foot to the groin," Bain pointed out.

"I might be," I said. "Do you want a demonstration?" I'd rather put my mouth on his dick, but if he insisted…

He chuckled. "No thanks. I might need my groin for other things someday."

"Like what?" I asked sweetly. As if I didn't know.

"Whatever you can think of," he said.

Oh great, now my imagination was doing all sorts of mental gymnastics. My thoughts involved somephysicalgymnastics. Luckily, I was that flexible.

"You didn't answer the question," I said. "Will you train me? I could use more self defence skills." I gestured around us with my free hand. He might see at least some of my movement. "We might not have ended up here."

Although Hades only knows what I might have done to counteract the pain the assholes inflicted. What had they done to me? I didn't know, but I hoped never to feel it again. I really would start digging knees into groins. If I didn't pass out from the agony. I assumed that was what happened. Intense, burning pain like a hot poker shoved under my skin, then everything went black.

I felt around my back, but I couldn't feel a mark there. My skin was tender, bruised, but not broken. Not burnt.

Whoever did this still sucked.

"I'll teach you," Bain said. "A person can never have too many self defence skills." He exhaled. "They shouldn't have taken me by surprise."

"To be fair," I said, "you were almost dead. No one expects you to be at your best under those circumstances."

"I do," he said. "My ghost should be able to kick ass."

I laughed softly. "Only you would think like that."

"So would you," he pointed out. It was so unfair that he was right about that.

"Yeah, okay, guilty." I leaned against the side of the truck. The metal was cold through the fabric of my shirt. I shivered.

"Are you okay?" he asked. "How do you feel.?"

"I feel…" I took a moment to consider. "Pissed off. But glad you're here with me. I don't think I could handle being here alone."

He squeezed my hand. "Of course you could. You're the strongest person I know. Also the best looking."

I snorted. "Oh I don't know, Dex is pretty hot."

"Yes, but not like you," he said. After a moment, he added, "You think Dex is hot, hmmm?"

I wasn't sure how to respond to that. "Yes," I said finally. "So are you. So is Knox.” So was Devlin, but it didn’t seem the time to bring him into it. “Sometimes I'm really confused. I mean, it's not normal to like three people just as much as each other. Is it?"

"Multiple partners are nothing new," he said. "Especially in the Vault. We don't follow the same ideals as the outside world."

"For people who like the old ways, that's progressive." I shifted to try to get more comfortable on the hard floor.

"Is it?" he asked. "It's old fashioned in some cultures. Didn't you assume Dex had a harem when you first arrived?"

My face heated. "Yeah, I did. It seems silly now."

"Oh, I don't know. It seems like the tables have turned." He lifted my hand to his lips and kissed it gently.
