I cometo back in the basement. Where this nightmare started. I’m chained again, and there is a collar on my neck once more. He opens the cage that has caused me nightmares, and I don’t even fight the tears running down my face.

“Please, don’t put me back in that cage. I’ll be good. Please, Rexley, don’t do this! Think of our child.” I beg, holding my stomach the best I can with the handcuffs around my wrists.

He scoffs and runs his hand down his face before looking me in the eye. “You always were a great actor. Could have made millions with your innocent girl next door smile and trust me blue eyes. Poor little, Kitty and the big, bad Rex. That’s what everyone thought of me. I thought I could save you. Bring you back to me. Make you mine again.” He mutters as he grips his hair, pulling tight.

“I don’t understand, Rexley, please just tell me what’s going on? Why would she say she’s me?

“Because she is you. Four years ago, Nicole Baker died and Cat was born. Don’t you see. I had planned to use her to win you back, as leverage, but as the years passed, I started to feel something for her. She was sweet and innocent, like the Cat I met that day in the halls. I never gave up looking for you. I had hoped one day you would give in and return to me on your own. Instead, I watched you. Moving on, meeting new people. When I overheard some tool talking about an engagement ring, I knew I had to step in once again.” He pauses, and I gasp.

He was going to propose? No, Cat, we can’t think of them right now.I take a deep breath and try to keep Rex talking.

“How did you make her believe she’s me, Rex?” He starts to laugh, and I inch as far away from him as this cage allows. I don’t have much room since my stomach is so large.

“That was the easy part. You see, her little accident gave her amnesia, and I got a compliant, trusting, willing to do anything for me Cat, two-point-oh. Much better than the lying, conniving, bitch you turned out to be,” he sneers, giving me a look of such hatred I flinch.

Turning on his heels, he starts to leave me.

“You can’t do this. Think of our baby. Our second chance.” I bite the bile back and plead with this man who has totally lost his mind. I can’t stay here. Now more than ever. I need to fight for my life.

“You betrayed me for the last time, Cat,” he growls, and I gulp. He called me Cat, not kitty. This isn’t good. I wipe the tears from my face and look up at him.

“I love you, Rexley Scott. I have loved you since I was sixteen years old. I never stopped.” I lie, and his nostrils flare. He grips his hair tight with his fingers again and roars. The cement walls surrounding us echo, and I flinch again.

“Lies!” he screams, crouching down to get in my face. I wince, and he snarls. “I love you, Cat. You are buried so far beneath my skin, I don’t think I will ever stop, but after that baby is born, I don’t care what happens to you anymore. I have a new kitty, now, and this one won’t ever betray me or try to leave. I will finally have my perfect family.”
