“Of course,” I state coolly. “She has also been kind enough to help me move some desks and chairs around. She has been very helpful with the layout of my new office.”

His hands pull into fists. “The rumors are that you two are dating, which would be against company policy. And having liaisons on company time would result in firing.”

“You cannot fire me,” I snort.

“Mandy could get fired. Do you want that?!”

Casually, I looked him up and down. “I expect you do, Mr. Coleman. I expect that you would rather see her fired then dating someone else.” It’s a jump, but my feelings tell me that it’s true.

“So, you admit that you are dating?!” he snaps.

I chuckle enjoying the look of scorn on his face. “Not at all. I don’t date.” Sliding out of the booth, I stand, giving him one more cold glance. “My business is mine, Mr. Coleman. I expect you to stay out of it.” Before he can answer, I walk away.

Chapter Eleven

Mandy

Three weeks later…

I didn’t expect this thing with Christian to go on this long. I’ve started telling myself every morning when I get ready for work, to not expect him to call me down to the basement. Every day I figure that he’s gotten his fill of me and my body and plans to move on. And yet, each day when I get into work, there is a message on Watercooler from “Master” or a message on my voicemail telling me to get changed and come downstairs. Sometimes he even wanders up to the fifth floor to collect me, say hello to Eileen, and pet the pugs.

I try to not make a big deal of it. There is no way I am giving my heart to another man. And with the way that our situation started — with the threat of blackmail — I don’t quite trust Christian. We never do anything but fuck, set up desks, and lay cables. Talk between us is either dirty or without depth — nothing a real relationship could be built on, and that is fine with me. This fling, even though it is just physical, has been the best of my life.

I pause in the doorway when Christian calls me down to the annex today and look around. The basement is starting to really look like an office. For some reason, I take pride in that. Sure, this isn’t my usual type of work, moving desks and setting up cables — not to mention all the non-work-related work Christian and I have done — but overall, looking at our progress makes me happy.

There are five members of Christian’s research and development team. Each member has a desk set up for them now and hookups ready for their computers. We arranged the desks into a star-like formation at one end of the annex. The other end is still occupied by the old conference table. I asked Christian if he was going to use it. He told me that they probably wouldn’t, but he still wants to keep it. It seems sentimental, or I want to think that it is, but in reality, I don’t think Christian is the sentimental type.

“Okay. Up!”

I look over at my boss. He’s leaning against the desk in the middle of the star-like formation. Not sure what he wants, I shrug slightly. He unfolds one of his arms and pats the top of the desk.

“You have to be kidding.” It’s not that I have a fear of heights or anything, I’m just not the type to go scampering up furniture like a squirrel or a child.

“Come on.” He gives me a big grin. “I’m not kidding at all. We need to drop a cable down from the ceiling for Rodney’s computer. So, the guys aren’t always tripping on cords. It won’t take much time at all. Then we can move on to more…fun things.” He moves his eyebrows up and down in an exaggerated manner. It makes me giggle.

“Fine.”

I have new work clothing on. I spent way too much money on outfits, but after a few days, I didn’t want Christian to constantly see me in my old jeans and t-shirts — not that they ever stayed on for long. So, I went out to buy things I thought were cute. My overalls for today hug my curves so tight that I can’t move in them well. That might be a problem, but with the way that Christian is eyeing my body, they will probably come off pretty quick, which is just as I planned.

He holds the desk chair still while I put my foot on it and use it as a step to climb to the top of the desk. As expected, my tight pants pull and fight the movement of my thighs, but I ignore it. My butt looks great in these things, and I know that Christian is staring at it right now.
