“Uh oh.” She said wearily.

“Nothing bad, I promise.”

“Okay, what is it?”

“I need the name of the jeweler that you use, preferably someone that will come to me tonight with a wide selection.”

She paused for a moment. “A selection of what?”

“Engagement rings for Cora.” I couldn’t help the stupid schoolboy grin that pulled at my lips as I said it out loud.

“Oh.” She gasped, “Are you going to propose?”

“I just did about twenty minutes ago and she said yes, and now I need to find the ring that she’s dreamed of her whole life.”

“Oh my God!” She screeched through the phone, “Chris! Mav and Cora are engaged! Oh my God!” she yelled again.

“Mom focus!” I laughed and waited for her to calm down.

“Okay, I’m sorry. I’m just so excited! And so happy, oh Mav! Okay, focus Marsha.” I laughed again as she chided herself. “Uh well the answer is easy, Ruby at Ruby and Son’s. I can call him if you’d like. He’s on the East Side so he’s close and he’d come running for the opportunity to put the ring on the finger of the future Mrs. Maverick Jones.”

“Okay, just text me the contact info and I’ll call him. I have a specific style in mind and want to discuss it with him first.”

“Okay, oh my God Maverick I’m so excited. Tell me you’re bringing her home for a visit this weekend please! I’m dying to see her and now we need to celebrate.”

“How about Sunday we come out and see you guys?”

“Perfect!” She gushed, “We can do a lunch out on the patio, it’s supposed to be beautiful out.”

“Okay, sounds good. I’ll let you know what time we’re coming out.”

“I love you so much Maverick, and I’m so happy you’re finally getting your happy ending.”

“This is just the beginning Mom, we have so much living to do.”

“Of course,” She laughed, “I’ll text you Ruby’s number.”

“Thanks Mom. Talk to you soon.”

I hung up with her and a moment later I got her text with the number for the jeweler and went to work arranging a selection of rings to be delivered tonight for Cora and me to pick out together.

The pieces of my life were falling into place, and I’d never felt more powerful.

Chapter 12 – Cora

I stood looking in the mirror of the walk-in closet in Mav’s spare bedroom and admired the black strappy dress I was wearing. It was sinful and elegant and sexy, and I felt all of those things in it.

My skin tingled with Mav’s arrival to the room, and I looked over my shoulder to find him leaning against the doorframe, still wearing only his suit slacks, and holding a crystal glass of bourbon in his fingers. My god he looked sexy.

And he was mine.

All fucking mine.

Sasha and Madeline, the two women Maverick had hired to be my personal shoppers, turned, and looked at him as he watched me.

“That’s a keeper.” He said sexily and my entire body shivered. He turned his attention to Madeline and nodded to the array of clothes spread out around the room. “Have you gotten what you need to make sure she’s taken care of?”

“Yes sir.” She said confidently. “We’ve got everything we need. We’ll have an entire new closet delivered by tomorrow night.”
