“I’m addicted to you.” I answered back, and it was the truth. After our breakthrough in the shower last night, I hadn’t left her body until the sun was rising again this morning. And I’d taken her again only an hour ago when we woke up to get ready for work. And if I had it my way, I’d take her again before I walked into my office this morning. “I mean it though, stay here with me. Don’t go back there.”

“Maverick.” She sighed and leaned down to put her other stocking on. “I can’t just stay here and never go home.”

“Why?”

“Because that would be living with you.”

“And what’s so wrong with that?” I asked as she looked over her shoulder at me and settled her thigh high on her leg.

“I’ve been alone for ten years, it’s hard to imagine just giving up that independence in an instant.”

“You would rather sleep alone at your own place instead of here with me?” I asked, trying to ignore the way that made my chest hurt.

She sighed again and put her hands on her hips, turning towards me. “When you put it that way, no.”

“Then why do you want to go back there?”

“Honestly?” She paused and looked me in the eye as she chewed on her bottom lip. “Because a part of me is waiting for you to cast me aside again and the survivor instinct in me is telling me to keep my exit strategy in place so I won’t be homeless again.”

“We talked about this…” I started, handing her the dress she was reaching for around me as I fought to keep my frustration at bay.

“I know. But the way you’re still afraid I’ll leave, is the same way I’m still afraid you’ll hurt me again and force me to leave. You don’t understand what it’s like not knowing where you’re going to sleep every night. Or what it feels like to wake up in the morning at the homeless shelter and realize someone stole your only pair of shoes while you were asleep. Or how it feels to go three days straight without a single bite to eat.” She said and sadness washed over her face. “I can’t just give up my lifeline Mav. You’re asking me to give up the only security I can trust right now.”

“I hate this.” I said plainly. “I hate that this is between us.”

“I know.” She said stepping into the black dress and turning for me to zip it up. “It’s only week one, maybe with time I’ll be able to let that part of me go.”

I pulled the zipper up as she held her hair aside. “If you want to stay at your place, can I stay with you?” I asked.

She snorted and smiled at me. “You want to slum it with me in my run-down apartment?”

“I want to stay with you, period.” I said forcefully.

She eyed me over her shoulder once again and shook her head. “I’ll never turn down sleeping next to you Mav. If you want to stay at my place you can, but I think you’re crazy to give up this heaven for my place.”

“You’re my heaven, Cora.” I whispered and kissed her, backing her into the shelf behind her and deepening the kiss until she was clinging to me.

“We’re going to be late for work.” She purred but she rocked her hips against me.

“I think your boss will forgive you.” I challenged as I slid my hand up the inside of her thigh towards the pretty black panties that I ached to tear off of her.

“You aren’t my boss, and you know it.” She hissed as my fingers rubbed her pussy over the silk.

“I’m your boss baby, in every sense of the word.”

She moaned and spread her thighs wide as I slid my finger into her panties and over her wet clit.

My phone started ringing in my pocket and we both groaned, pulled away from our desire. She laughed and pushed me away and I reluctantly let her but not before bringing my finger to my lips and sucking it clean in my mouth, tasting her delicious arousal on my tongue. “I want you spread open on my desk for lunch today.” I didn’t let her reply, as I turned and grabbed my coffee from the island top behind me and took my phone from my pocket, “I’ll meet you at the front door.” I answered my phone, seeing Veronica’s name on the screen and walked from the closet as she sagged into the shelf with a horny look on her face.

Check mate.

Half an hour later we were pulling up outside of Hawthorn Tower in my Audi with Franklin driving. One of the front doormen opened the car door and I stepped out and turned to help Cora step out behind me. It was an incredible feeling, walking into work with Cora at my side, knowing we were finally building this company together now, even if it was ten years late.

“Mr. Jones.” Parker the security guard said, nodding to me before he nodded to Cora at my side. She smiled at him.

“Morning Parker.” I replied.

“Why did you name it Hawthorn Tower?” Cora asked me from my side as we went through the security turnstiles.
