Seff turned to face my brother. He didn’t block him from me. He stood at my side. From the corner of my eye, I saw Sorrel and Carmine slip around to the driver’s side of the SUV, out of the way.

With only a few feet separating us, Decker stared at me, his turquoise eyes so much like mine, burned in a way I had never seen before. His entire body seemed to vibrate with the need to strike out at something—or someone—or just me.

“Breeder?” he snarled.

“Yes.” I might not have discovered that biological fact so early in my life if it hadn’t been for my brother’s pain addiction.

His eyes squinted. “It’s always about you, isn’t it?”

Say nothing.

“Tillman never told me you were a Breeder.”

Say nothing.

A nasty smile curved Decker’s lips, revealing his elongated canines. “Wow, Seff, I bet you had fun with that.”

The aggression shooting through my bond with Seff broke through my twin bond, shattering the connection. And before I registered Seff’s movement, his fist struck out, and my brother flew backward through the air, then landed hard on the asphalt.

“Listen, you disrespectful ass-clown,” Seff growled as he glared down at Decker. “Being a Breeder isn’t a choice. It’s a gift—a blessing—you’re too ignorant to appreciate. There is a hell of a lot more to being a Breeder than just glory and honor and Moon Dances.”

“But...why her?” My brother’s voice took on a grating, whining quality I hadn’t heard since we were small.

I wanted to scream, but the words came out cold and uncaring. “Because there are no male Breeders in our line, Deck.”

A look of disbelief covered my brother’s face. “How do you know that?”

“When I told Coleman, he researched our bloodline. Breeders only appeared in twins, with only one twin carrying the gene. Always female.”

“Do Mom and Dad know?”

I nodded. “And no, Tillman never knew.”

Decker’s look of disbelief twisted into anger. “So you could’ve defended yourself from his attacks, and you didn’t?”

Say nothing.

I turned away and grabbed my jacket from the front seat.

“You let him—arrrr...” Deck’s words cut off abruptly.

When I turned back, Seff had my brother in his hands again, shaking him like a dog’s ragged toy.

“You knew that male attacked your sister repeatedly, and you did nothing?” Seff’s menacing growl made the hair all over my body stand on end. “I would... Iwillprotect her with my life. Nothing and no one will ever hurt her again, including you.”

“What’s going on here?” With what had been happening between Seff and my brother, no one had noticed Brutus’ return. His gaze flicked from me to Decker to Seff. “I’m sorry to say you’re going to need to break this up. Seff, you’ll have plenty of time to kick his ass later.” He reached into the back of the SUV and pulled out his clothing. “We need to get out of here.”

Seff grunted. “I’m done with him.” He released his hold on my brother, but still had more to say. “You knew, and you should’ve rescued her.”

Brutus pinned Decker with a disappointed glare. He shook his head slightly, then slipped his legs into his jeans as he continued. “Sorrel, did that resort you’re staying at seem full?”

“It’s a membership-type resort, so no. The parking lot was half full this morning. Only a few people at the buffet breakfast.”

Brutus nodded, his dark eyes focused on his remaining clothing and boots. “Your pack has a membership?”

“Yeah.”

“Good. We need a few rooms.”
